Quite frankly I preffer the TASCAM, you can take a look at the DR-07MKII or the DR40. Those two are great.
Also, they just have released a couple of toys if you have an Iphone or Ipad...

Also, if you want to compare with Zoom R16, you can try here...
I agree with Mike's advise. I think that the only possibility is to use a DAW like Ableton Live Lite to filter the track and then try to emulate what you want.
For me, sounds like the problem is on the Behringer mixer, I have one smaller (xenyx 502) and I had the same noise after a couple of months using it... Can not guarantee but looks the same. Bad news is that I could not solve the problem so I went directly to the audio interface.
My suggestion for an entry level phase is:
M-AUDIO - Fast Track - Record Guitar and Vocals on Your Computer this one comes with Protools SE which is great DAW option to begin
M-AUDIO - Fast Track Pro - 4 x 4 Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface with Preamps this on I have and is just fantastic...
My advise is to connect your zoom directly to the PC, transfer the files and then download audacity from here ... Audacity: Download yes it's FREE and is an easy way to start learning how to use a DAW.
Also if you like reading, buy this book Amazon.com: The Book of Audacity: Record, Edit...
Agree with Bob, you need an audio interface not a sound card.
From my personal experience I highly recommend the m-audio fast track pro M-AUDIO - Fast Track Pro - 4 x 4 Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface with Preamps which you can buy now for us$179. This interface comes with Ableton Live Lite...

In case you want to try buying some books, I would like to recommend you the Hal Leonard series....

Perhaps the guitar 1 might be too basic but quite frankly I preffer to start from scratch...
A teacher is always the best recommendation, otherwise as you have background playing other instruments, you can try with some web pages.
I personally use a couple:

It depends on the pedal you have. For instance, I have the VOX tonelab ST and they have a pretty nice page with tons of tonnes from different users.
I also bought a book to get a decent knowledge about tones, etc but the book was not what I expected, anyway, take a look of you want to...
What about these two new toys from Tascam....

I bought a couple of Lick Library videos to learn some cool Pink Floyd songs (Comfortably Numb).
