Can I get feedback on a new folks/rock song?

this is my first post to the mix clinic, and I was hoping to get some constructive criticism of this song I have just written, recorded and mixed. General and/or detailed impressions welcome! I'm mostly interesting in whether the song as a hole holds up. Thanks! LOOKOUT SOUL by NEXT OF KEN |...

Early Mix of a New song

I love this tune, especially the guitars. Reminds me of Galaxy 500 or Luna. Have you finished it or added vocals? If not, I might suggest keeping the humming parts in sections and adding sparse lyrics to flush out a theme.. Great feel, though. this is among my first posts to the mix clinic...

High in the Sky - Blues original - 1st draft

I hear what you're going after with the snare and I love that snare sound, but it needs a little more tweeking to make it sizzle -- maybe less mid-highs. also maybe use just the second half of the snare intro fill to give it punch. Actually, the snare got better as the song went on, at least...

    ?

actually, i think the into guitar could be even more gnarly, to distinguish and cement it's place....as long as it fades as the other guitars start. But that's just me.

    Moving Waves

this version is a lot clearer and cleaner that the first one. I'm not one to micro manage at this point, but the mix comes together nicely. guitars sound more real in this one too.

    "Promise You I'm Gone"

i really like the vocals.. especially how it comes in at the start, but the guitar is a little loud and competes with it. Perhaps automate the guitar and vocals at the intro to blend. Nice and crisp sounding though, edgy. Reverb on vocals has OK level for me...this kind of song calls for that, IMO

    bipolargressive

more kick and bass bottom. I hear more thumping kick. I can hear the Rush.

    Killing Time

I like the groove but there is a lot going on in the mids that could be tamed, also lots of instruments competing with the low end. . I agree that I'd work on the kick rather than the bass, which i can hear fine. Good groove though. good luck

What are your top 10 most influential albums?

nola -- that's a great list of influences. Varied and eclectic - except I'd have also included some Brian Jonestown Massacre. but that's just me. ha ---------- Update ---------- that's a great list of influences. Varied and eclectic - except I'd have also included some Brian Jonestown...

    Feedback on New Mix?

i like the double acoustics, even though they don't always line up. It makes the track more interesting and off-kilter in a good way. Makes me not want to worry so much about my double acoustics not lining up in my recordings. Unusual vocals and lyrics. I'm reminded of Flaming Lips, though, not...

Who We Are - New project

i loved the organ-guitar riff when the drums come in at the beginning and at the ending...Unless you are using that hook for the vocal riff, I'd like to hear it more throughout the tune. Good jams, especially guitar in last half, but it could use some tightening and I'm missing not hearing that...

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

cool song, well constructed and catchy. reminds me of fountains of wayne, but that's just me.....Needs a better mix, but you say this is a scratch. and I'm with you about trying to record bass...I'm also a guitarist who pretends to play bass

    Straight From My Heart (original)

much improved from first version. Nice song and I love the minor chords..

Trying to improve this alt rock song to the point of showing off -with my own talents

great hook, but the vocals are not making it for me. Too many effects and phasing or chorus or whatever. Like the others said: Make the vocals higher. Doubling vocals make my thin voice sound fuller. You may have done that, but the vocals are so low in the mix that it's hard to tell.

writing lyrics with lots of "i/me/you/we"

i was watching a video by a big name songwriter and hit maker talk about tips...He said people want to hear about their lives and struggles, not yours. So he said he very rarely uses first person -- the "I" way -- until the chorus, if at all. He said changing it in the chorus is a good way to...

    Lyrics & Song

I really like the feel of this song, and the way you have sung it. I suggest focusing on tightening up the vocals, perhaps concentrating more the phrasing and perhaps even editing the words -- but not too much, cause the phrasing is a big hook for the song...

Hello people, new member, would love some feedback on a tune

Hey -- I'm new to this forum, so I'm about six months late to this discussion...i just wanted to say I love this song. For me anyway, it's a stand out among the many songs, demos and mixes I've heard on this forum so far. Great lyrics and melody, but I do agree that it gets repetitious after...
