ITB Mixing, how good can you get it? (CLA content)

i started the thread as a means to so who got a "at home" mix similar to CLA using ITB tools. My first post never started ranting about how i was frustrated because i cant get my mixes there.....my first post was an open call to anyone who has achieved such a sound at home using ITB tools. ( i...

Bro, i do appreciate you taking to time to educate me on all this, and share your thoughts.....but of all this going back and forth......and yet you havent even listend to my mix at all. you can surly tell me how the "right way" to do it is, .....and i do believe you. but how do you know that...

We shouldn't? Why wouldn't we strive to sound good? if i have sub-par gear and a crappy room, thats not going to stop me from trying to get my mixes to sound good. Im not going to tell myself, "i have crappy gear and a crappy room, so i will not even bother to get my mixes to sound PRO cause i...

true, very true........BUT.....most of us here dont have that luxury either, after all this is a HOME recording forum. Most of us recording/mixing at home are in the same situation with shitty rooms and low budget gear. Thats the whole point of this thread...i want to see if (and who) can get...

ok, after listening to the latest "mix bed"....its getting close. But everything farview said in his last post (recomendations) are dead on! i was comparing it to Greendays "Know your enemy" song, and i simply just lowerd that song down to what ever level my mix was and started to A/B the 2...

the Legacy actually sounds pretty good at low volumes, with or without an attenuator. but the best way to get a real recorded amp sound, is by having that cabinet "moving some air".....in which even with an attenuator....you need some serious volume to get the speakers movin'. if you record an...

the head is a Carvin Legacy (Steve Vai model), and am using a power attenuator with it. But i didnt want to mic it up cause with Cab impulses , it just gave me alot more options instead of just using my mics. the impulses im using is a blend of a U87 (about 3-4 in back/ center of dust cap) and...

WOW.....this is alot of brightening. On all the tracks im EQ'ing and then compressing so i can do some radical EQ changes.........but the electric guitars already are boosted 12db at 8k (SSL channel). Really add more? I do agree that the mix overall is still a bit dull, but im so surprised how...

ok, ive updated the mix, and about 70% done with it (same mix link above) The Bass really needs attention still. Its very loud and still bassy as hell. The Hi-hats/cymbals are still very transparent sounding (over compressed). is this moving in the right direction?

Before even reading your post, I realized this mix was absolute crap. I've already started re-mixing.....yet again. Thanks for taking the time to help out in all this.

instead of posting squashed masters....i should be posting the mix itself without boosting it to hell and back (loudness/mastering) heres the mix without any mastering its real quiet, has some headroom......and yes...i also do notice it have a shit ton of dynamic range...

ok, ive updated the mix....same link as above. Im still not happy with it though. The snare keeps getting pushed back and thins out (lacks that in your face slammin' body) when i master it. Ive tried to compensate a bit by making the mix "snare up" a lil' bit, but that doesnt seem to help. No...

ok, here we go....CLA style mix attempt..... Listen here While mixing it, i thought it was sounding pretty good! But after giving it a "faux" master attempt, i soon realized how it started to sound thinner with my "faux" mastering. anyways, give it a listen....and let me know if i got withing...

the tape plugin is "Nomad factory tube/tape warmer", it came with a bundle of analog suite stuff. its not bad, i dont use the 'tubes" portion of that plugin, i just set it to 30ips and adjusted the input so the needle/meter came to about 0uv on its input. its doesnt really do much other than...

ok, so now this thread is getting really interesting.....this rocks. last night i sat at the DAW and did a test on a single guitar track (electric guitar -heavy). I knew the recorded signal came in at about -16dBFS, so i have a good normal signal coming in. Now i wanted to do a "zero in = zero...

ok, so what your sayin is.....if the signal is going into the plugin at -16dbfs and the plugins meters are still reading into the "GREEN", i can push the input knob on the plugin so it eventually is in the YELLOW....and thats what i am supposed to do for optimum level? i guess what im trying to...
