Can I use a Condensor Mic on this?

not trying to be a jerk. but isn't there a thread at the top of the page that says "Microphone FAQ-you may already have the answer to your question." its a wonder how much you can learn by just reading a little bit.

    Pro Tools. Yea or Nay?

the biggest thing that pushed me away from protools was its inability to interact with other hardware/software. from what i understand the protools hardware doesn't work too well with other programs. and the protools software has fits with non-protools hardware. even though i have yet to get...

    Lava Lamps - A Warning

well, yeah the pressurized container is obviously gonna explode. i was just trying to reason why he would put it on the stove. i guess whoever makes lavalamps is going to have to put a warning label telling people not to use any types of external heat sources to warm up their lamp.

    Which Interface?

with the Firebox at $400 already i don't think it would be economical. in order to use 4 mics on the firebox you'd need another set of mic preamps. so paying another $200 for 2 more preamps and you're at $600 for 4 channels. At that price you can just get the Presonus FIREPOD and have 8 channels...

Where does one learn how to be an audio/studio engineer

i agree with ronan. you've got the opportunity to go to college for free, do it! and make the most of it. if you're really interested in music and production you should go to college for electrical or acoustical engineering. get yourself a real degree that will give you a solid job if you ever...

    Lava Lamps - A Warning

he definitely wins a darwin award what a sucky way to die? absolutely no honor in having a shard of glass pierce your heart. was he trying to heat up the lamp quicker? i know it takes time for the lamp to work properly, was he just trying to speed it up? well, seeing as i think lava lamps are...

    Which Interface?

ok, lets see. firewire vs. usb 2.0 - usb isn't hotpluggable so if you unplug something without telling the computer you're going to it could screw some stuff up at least 4 mic inputs. - in order to record 4 mics at the same time you are going to need 4 microphone preamps. a lot of interfaces...

    What's limiting YOUR recordings??

i voted for myself. i'm pretty sure there are people out there who can get better recordings than i do out of the same gear. i'm the only part of the recording equation that should be getting better with time and no additional cost. therefore i'm the cheapest but yet most overrated part of my...

    fender speakers vs ???

i just recently purchased a '78 fender princeton reverb. the amp is all original including the crappy fender 10inch speaker. its just not tight enough on the low end. i was wondering what people's opinions were on other 10 inch speakers from jbl, celestion, weber etc. . . so far i'm leaning...

    Acoustic recording options:

i've gotten some good recordings with just my NT1-A. I think you just need to pay attention to where you put the mic rather than how many mics you use. 1 mic and a direct input should yield a well-rounded sound. the direct input usually comes in high on the trebble end. you can counter that...

    OT: Kids & Guitar

the baby taylors play really well. but they aren't very cheap. the only problem i see with using a capo is that you will need to downtune the strings in order to keep the same key. but then again this might be a good thing because downtuning the strings will make them easier to press which...

    Ibanez Destroyer Stand

yeah, any stand that suspends the guitar from the headstock rather than supporting the body should work for awkward shaped guitars.

    Best 112 Combo Amp

yeah we all like tube amps here. solid state seriously sucks. i have a mesa boogie dc3 and i like it a lot. 30 watts 112. its a heavy little bugger and ridiculously loud. i also just picked up a '78 fender princeton reverb. its only 1x10 @ 12 watts but i like it a lot. it doesn't get as loud...

    PODxt vs. Vox ToneLab

i haven't gotten the chance to play around with the tonelab yet but i would like to. i think the advantage of the xt would be the ability to download new patches/effects. i don't see the point in using it to record to the computer. most people who are recording will already have an interface...

Guitar made of single piece of wood (SG Thread)

theres a shop here in orlando that makes custom built neck-through-body guitars. i played one and they sound and feel very good. i know the shop has made one for jimmy buffet but i'm not sure what his opinion is on it. they've done very good work on anything i've taken to them and seem to be...

    Speakers, Cabs and OHMS

8 ohm dummy loads do exist. i bought one capable of 100 watts from parts express and modded the lead wires for a 1/4" jack. i use it on my guitar amp when i record with a direct box. that way i can push the power amp section without shattering windows.

    anyone write in alternate tunings?

i've done a lot of stuff in alternate tunings. its fun. it adds a different emphasis than standard tuning. sometimes i'll just sit there and detune my strings and add capos just to hear what they sound like. i don't even remember most of the tunings i've used. using double capos and cut capos...
