Good day all!
What's the reason why an acoustic panel should be hung a couple inches off the wall?
Does the sound diffuse more with the space in-between?
I'm going to do it that way because it's recommended and looks cool, but was curious as to the science behind it.
Thank you!
Daryl
I'll play. In no particular order, and always subject to change.
Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
Christopher Lawrence - Rise
The Jam - Sound Affects
Beatles - Rubber Soul
Talking Heads - Fear of Music
16 Horsepower - Sackcloth 'n' Ashes
Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline

I rarely post, but Bubba, that's awesome you guys did this. I really dig the low strings during the chorus and the musical interlude prior to the final verse.
Really cool, great band, wonderful cover. Some of the best closing lyrics to a song ever. Made my day.

The track sounds really good! Nice vocal delivery, and I agree, the guitar licks are solid and work well.
Not on my monitors, but for what it's worth, sometimes the cymbal crashes seem a bit soft? I must admit I'm partial to crashes that really "crash" - they sound good, but for me, a hint of...
Nice arrangement, which provides the space the song needs to have a very soft emotional touch to it - really cool!
I like how the guitar comes in at around the 2:56 mark - but I think this guitar covers up a lot more of the vocals.
I didn't mind the vocal level too much prior to this - I...
I love when the guitar comes in around 2:15 (coming out of the lo-fi). I did one of those "that's awesome" head turns.
I like the little lo-fi part also - I think it works. The song and mix are really awesome, but I guess if I could offer anything constructive, it'd be that the "intro" of the...
Man, lots of punk discussions lately. That's cool.
Without a clip, I would think it's tough to say what you need. Not necessarily the best Clash song, but "Rock the Casbah" had a prominent piano.
Wire had nice harmonies. So did the Modern Lovers. I would say that they're both "punk", I...
Having done a lot of recent mixing on headphones out of necessity - I'll echo the above remarks. Avoid if possible.
My biggest realization between mixing on headphones compared to my monitors (which I have minimal access to) - is the fatigue factor and mobility.
I couldn't escape the...

Thank you greatly! We did get together - and attempted to set all levels equal going into the Tascam. Then, they were transferred over to my laptop to mix on Reaper.

Thank you as well - yeah, we'd set the click on the portastudio, then try and match the drum...
Totally fair - and accurate. The tracks varied on the recording level, but generally between -18 and -11 (on the drums). The synths were a little higher than that, although I matched the level on the Tascam. I'm hoping someone can enlighten me as to why the same recording level shown on the...
Good day everyone,
After much hemming and hawing, I'll throw this up there.
I know it's not that good, but nonetheless, I'm doing this for nothing more than serious fun. I thank this forum for allowing me to lurk and learn as much as I possibly can. I look forward to the critiques, as I...
You could play the piano slightly different - break up some previous long notes, hold out some 8th notes, things like that.
Maybe even interplay the sound and notes with the context of the vocals. Or use the piano to add some light padding on the 2nd verse. Or heavy padding, depending on...
I'm glad I found this thread...
My bro always gives me the business because I generally play all 6 strings on my barre chords. Part of it is due to ignorance - when I was first figuring out barre chords, I never put it together that I'm only supposed to play 5th string down, or whatever...
I don't own Michael Molenda's "The Guitar Player Book: 40 Years Of Interviews, Gear, And Lessons From The World's Most Celebrated Guitar Magazine", so I can't fully confirm this, but some cursory research led me to this quote -
"The Mosrites were light, and they were perfect for playing...
Psychedelic Purrs, I guess?
One of my favorite bands, and a lively interpretation of the song. I like it when people get goofy and have fun (unless you were being serious :)).

Yeah, Da Vinci's ability to dram the human anatomy is incredible - but so is Pollock's drip style, which conveys nothing concrete. Opposite ends of the artistic spectrum, but the power of the piece trumps all.
That being said - I follow this forum to improve my recording and mixing - and if I...
Yeah, Wavves are real cool. That Williams guy seems to be genuine, which is all I can expect. Actually, being genuine isn't even that big of a criteria for me, but it helps when I hear it.
And for the forum's purposes, I find it's like utilizing fundamental concepts of recording, and taking...
Yeah, if the shoe fits...
Bands like Neutral Milk Hotel and Wavves put it it good use - in my opinion, it just depends on the angle one wants to take on the song.
Lo-fi can add inspiration, even if contrived - kind of like the frame of a photo or painting. True, it's not the meat of the...
Hey Bea!
As a relative beginner myself, I would recommend getting equipment - even if it's spending $75 on a Tascam Portastudio.
Reason being, it's much easier to learn with some kind of recording device in hand that has the bare basics (simple EQ, panning, and volume faders).
Heck, my junk...
I'm just learning about music marketing, so grain of salt...
If you're looking to get someone to check out your music, you should probably give them a reason to do so - "because it's there" isn't a great answer. No man's a mountain.
Well, maybe Lennon, but even then...
I listened though...
