Theoretically that's true; in my own case I've never found it appealling enough to actually practice on a non-weighted keyboard or a keyboard with fewer than a full complement of keys.

It's the mechanics in place to make the plastic keys feel like a piano.

What are you planning on using it for? I'd say that could be good for a real beginner that isn't planning on recording anything with it. The action isn't realistic, though. If you have space and can find one in the paper I'd get a real piano, they're conservatively 1,000,000x more fun to play...

It is an acceptably good card with decent convertors and reliable drivers. You will want to upgrade if you ever want more channels, but it's fine for 2x2. You will not, however, be able to plug your mic into it. It has RCA ins only. They're good but they're a bit boutiquey: for the price...

I don't know much about SP-12s, in Cubase, Logic et al it's a feature that let's you create a grid out of the events in an audio track, and then you can snap midi notes to the grid.

Recycle the drum beat and then create a groove quantize out of the instrumental loop. EDIT: that won't work in Cool Edit, though, you'd need a sampler and a midi sequencer.

I've heard that before: that ASIO is not good in Sonar. They didn't support VST for the longest time either (do they now?). I think Cakewalk has got a beef with Steinberg and don't like to adopt their standards.

You can do it with reverb, it just takes some tweaking.

A nicer pair of monitors is not an option at this point. The question is: is a sub going to be better or worse than no sub. EDIT: so I guess the thread title is kind of misleading. I was getting prices as I was typing.

It would be more typical for things to be compressed individually and then maybe a limiter over the whole mix. You wouldn't want, for example, a loud snare crack to alter the level of everything else in a noticeable way.

Only problem with that is, a lot of times people sing out of tune when they only hear their voice through the inside of their heads. In my experience anyways. One thing I've tried to get a more lively performance is to move the microphone away from the performer physically. "Okay, I want to...
