New to sight and recording lots of ???

All I know is... After I purchased my Tascam DP02, I spent about 3 days banging my head against the wall trying to figure it all out. Then one magical night, I decided to read the owners manual cover to cover, and even though it's not the best written manual on the planet, I saw the light, and...

New to sight and recording lots of ???

K, first things first... Read the Fostex manual cover to cover! I'm not being flippant here, it's very important to understand all of the terms as they relate to that unit!

    here's a crazy question

Back in my analog days... I simply ran the right mixer out to my A channel on the tape deck, and the left to B (I was using a Fostex X15). I do the same now with my Tascam DP02. My mixer has 8 effects sends (I am running 3 multi fx units now...Lex LXP15, Lex MX200, Behringer Virtualizer)...I...

Songs to learn to help my soloing.

Great suggestions all... something else to think about is getting Tascam Guitar Trainer. This is a great little unit that's not too terribly expensive (you can find these used on Craigs list or MusicGoRound if you have one near you). You can upload your tunes and slow them down without...

    Original Song Called "Ordinary"

You mentioned in another thread... that you are a vocal instructor. In the words of Captain Ron (don't ask), it shows! The single thing I absolutely HATE that many vocalists are guilty of these days is way too much modulation (Mariah or Whitney times 10). You really have a great feel for...

Thoughts on a new song?(rough mix)

I've got to agree with WhiteStrat... Well done...someone else said it sounded kind of southern...it's that solo in the backgound...KINDA sounds like Charlie Daniels Band (or is it Marshall Tucker)...anyway, it's a great song to listen to...the lack of acoustic doesn't hurt it one bit.

    Some Gilmour-ish blues

Yes, but... I've always thought of Gilmour as an awesome blues guitarist (in fact, the solo on "Money" is one of my favorite blues jams), and SRV and Setzer are not that far away. I would also assume that you are a Michael Schenker fan?? He is certainly no slouch either.

    Some Gilmour-ish blues

After another listen... I noticed the Gilmourish lead (played underneath the lead Vox) is sandwiched in between the Beckish leads...Cool.

    Some Gilmour-ish blues

Not bad at all... Love that organ backing... Like the guitar overdubs...sounds like you flanged the rythmn guitar, and used a Uni Vibe on the first lead (hence the Gilmourish sound)... I like it...I can even notice a bit of Jeff Beckish stuff in there (second lead)...

    Original Song Called "Ordinary"

Wow... This is incredible stuff! You really have a wonderful voice. The overdubs are really tight and the lead Vox is really nice...not too much scat. What can I say...this is some of the nicest stuff I've heard, commercial or demo, in quite awhile. Well done! Tim

Nope No computer...just a Tascam DP02 for multitracking. These are all conventional stand alone synths.

    here's a crazy question

I might be missing something, but... why not just get a cheap Behringer mixer. The Xenyx series mixers have all the stuff you want and you can get a 12 channel for, like, 100 bucks. I record with a lot of instruments, so I'm currently using an MX3482A that I bought off of Craigs list for...

    Why have multiple guitars?

Tone, Tone, Tone!! I can't get the same jazz vibe from my Stratocaster that I can get from my Gibson ES 175 or ES 135. I can't sound like Jimmy or Stevie with the Gibsons (of course, I can't sound like them even with the Strat). This thread is cracking me up...I get the same crap from my...

Yes, a few more keyboards and... Actually, I also have 11 guitars! I store them in cases on the shelf when not in use.

    Home Recording's Dirty Little Secret

A lot of it depends... on what kind of music you are doing. The more complex the music, the more of a challenge it is to get great recordings. If you overdub 5 guitars, synths, bass, vocals and ping pong them all onto a few tracks, it will all sound like shit. I started out 20 years ago with...
