    Money on monitors or interface?

I say keep it, 58 dont go for much money used, yet they are very useful to have around a studio. And you wanted to have a dynamic for vocals anyway, so I think thatll be alright for now. Great dynamics for vocals like the sm7b and RE20 are in the 200-350 range so its definitely a BIG leap in...

    Bouncing two track to 1

Hey guys, ive got a preatty easy question. In cubase, the bounce feature makes one file out of two events in the same track (from what I can gather by trying it) I was wondering if there is a way to combine two actual track into one. What ive benn doing in all my time using cubase is either...

    pre/post fader switch

I get confused with the terminology, but when it is orange, the volume of the send will be independent of the track volume. When it is grey, the track volume affects the send. EDIT: just try it and see, press it (orange) and mess with the track colume and youll see the send wont change. If you...

    Crackling sound on playback

Only thing I can think of is a problem with your soundcard not handling your latency settings. Mess around with the latency, increase it to se if it goes away. The only time this has happened to me is when I was running at very low latency with lots of plugins, but different systems can handle...

    Money on monitors or interface?

Hey A.D Ryan, as far as microphones, if you are only recording vocals, Id say get at least 1 dynamic and 1 condenser. Condensers tend to be the norm for vocals, yet a dynamic might be good for some situations, but Youll want to have at least one of each, and it seems that a 1200 budget would...

    Money on monitors or interface?

Along my recording journey (a pretty short one, I might add, lol) I've passed through this stage; recording in a closet and mixing in my room. The truth is, sometimes, its all you can afford, and it makes less sense to keep buying new interfaces and monitors as your ears get better, as opposed...

    Money on monitors or interface?

I respectfully disagree with bristol. Dont get me wrong, room treatment is important, but in my experience, it should not be overemphasized when on a tight budget. In my experience, when there is a strict budget, it becomes a matter of what is essential vs. what you would ideally have. Bottom...

SM7b - Problemsa with gain and level. Heeeeelp!!

Never tried and SM7b myself but every time Ive seen somebody use it, they seem to kiss the mic while singing, I dont think youll have a problem going closer than 4" inches or even putting your lips against the windscreen. That might get you usable levels.

Newbie needs advice on laptop recording setup!

After reading what youre after, I think it'll work fine. As I said I used a laptop very very similar to the one youre considering for my first year while I learned basic recording and it served me well. With my setup I was able to even run about 8 inputs at one time and there were no real...

Newbie needs advice on laptop recording setup!

Hey man, I was, until very recently, running a setup close to this. I have now upgraded to a dedicated and more powerful desktop for recording. While, I cant comment on pro tools or the mbox, as far as your PC goes, when I ran with this setup (exactly the same as your pc but with a 100 Gb hard...

Bluesy Rockin tune with hammond and horns

Dude I love this song so much! The beginning riff is so sweet. Only complaint here is that in general it seems way to trebly, maybe its just me, but the organs seem to be eq'd with their high frequencies boosted to the point of making them a bit unpleasant. I would also turn them down in the...

Newbie here, would love some feedcack on acoustic song.

Hi Everyone, This is the first time I've recorded and mixed somebody else's music. I would love to hear what you guys think of the recording and mixing. My friend wrote the song as far as vocals, lyrics, and chords, but I play all instruments (including acoustic guitar, cause his takes were a...

    First drum recording. Comments please

Hi everyone, So I've been recording for a while now but its always been solo acoustic or electric guitar, never a whole band or even a drum kit. So a couple of days ago I got a drummer buddy of mine to come in and play and made my first drum recording ever! Anyway, I think I have a pretty...

Maroon 5 - Harder to Breathe cover

I agree that it sounds pretty good for a band demo. I feel the drums are lacking, and a bit buried in the mix but commenting on them doesn't seem fair considering you didnt have a drummer for this. Programmed drums always have a bit of a dead quality to them. My only complaints are that the...

Quick mix of an almost finished tune....

Sounds great man! One thing I'd do differently, and it's really just personal taste, but I'd make the drums bigger and dirtier. Especially the kick. The kick sound you have is nice and tight, but it sounds a little too small for me. Again, it's a matter of what YOU want out of the song, so if...

Newbie building a studio = help please!

Thanks for the replies guys I really appreciate it. I read through the whole bass trapping link and found a lot of useful info. I'll look into getting some 2" panels, but if not I can always build some 4.5" or 6" ones with the 1.5" insulation. Also, what is the proper grade of insulation I...
