    Monitor Alternatives

I have the same problem... ...and have been looking into an inexpensive solution. I have been getting by with computer speakers (I can see the audio snobs cringing now) - at least they are Altec Lansing speakers. I have come across the following monitors that seem somewhat affordable. If...

    a cheap mic pre/compressor setup

I've got an Art Tube MP, Alesis Compressor and Rode NT1 that I use for recording vocals into my computer. I'd like to also have the ability to record acoustic guitar simultaneously. I am trying to keep the setup as inexspensive as possible for now. I figured I'd pick up a Marshall MXL 603s...

more guitar for your $'s I have to side with orgran grinder here...for the money you can't touch the DeArmond. I see where some might think that a used Guild or Fender would get you there, but you can't get a used Guild for a few hundred bucks... I see these things in the store all the time...

    cheap headphones

bruce, thank you for responding, but that's really not the anwer I am looking for - I need a pair of headphones for when I record and while i don't intend to do ALL of a mix from the headphones, a set that aren't super "bassy" and give me at least a ball park of what I should be hearing will...

    Damping A Room

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this problem, because I am really not sure what to do about it. I do all of my recording in the main room of my apartment, which is a large rectangular space with hardwood floors. I can use a dynamic mic on guitar cabs, vocals, acoustic guitar, etc. and not...

I am in (DMAN 2044) hell...

Hi, I am having some real problems with the Midiman DMAN 2044 sound card. I have contacted tech support on several occasions and the clearly do not want to help. They simply ignore my messages. So, once again, I need some help - here are the specifics: - Pentium 233 MHZ - 13.5 GB Hard...

    DMAN 2044 Playback Problems

I was recording my GT2 directly into my DMAN 2044 last night when I noticed some odd "static" at the top of the track. Originally, I thought this was just the GT2 - since the pedal was plugged directly into the sound card, maybe it was just "overloading" the signal. But when I recorded this...

Sound Blaster AWE 64 Gold and System Crashes

Hi, I am having a problem with my SoundBlaster AWE 64 Gold card. I recently reformatted my hard drive. I then reinstalled all of the software back to my system (including Cakewalk) and had no problems. Monday night I realized that I had not installed the AWE 64 software that Creative...

Mackie vs. Behringer vs. Spirit - Mixer Madness

that's a little (actually a shit load) out of my price range. Any comments on a more cost effective mixer?

Mackie vs. Behringer vs. Spirit - Mixer Madness

I realize that this debate has raged on and on at this site, but still - I don't think any definitive answer was ever reached as to what the best small project studio mixer brand is. I have read many comments saying that Behringer mixers are just as good as Mackies. Personally, I worked with a...

Problems w/ the DMAN 2044 (or maybe just me)

Hey Roadz, Thanks for responding. I will try the preamp. How do you have your jumpers set? For +4db or -10db - the default being -10db. I am not sure if Cakewalk has the ability to select both 1/2 and 3/4. In the Tools | Audio Options screen, I have a drop down window for PLayback Wave...

Problems w/ the DMAN 2044 (or maybe just me)

I recently installed a MidiMan DMAN 2044 in my computer to repace the SoundBlaster 32 that I had been using to record (although I left the SB in for use of SoundFonts and MIDI). I was able to install the DMAN system and it does record and playback. I have tried to contact tech support and let...

eq tweakin' in Cakewalk Professional (7)

I am recording with Cakewalk Pro 7 and I was wondering what other people have done to be able to "mixdown" tracks? I haven't been able to find (if it exists) controls in Cakewalk for boosting bass, hi's, or mid's - other then the Graphic EQ which almost always seems to clip when I use it. Any...

    Stops during playback

I had a similar problem using Cakewalk (I believe 7) and a SB Awe 64 card. Alhough it's not the best solution, I was able to get Cakewalk to work flawlessly with digital audio by disabling most of the MIDI features on my sound card.

    mixing down in order

I am trying to mixdown some tracks in Cakewalk and I want to apply effects (such as reverb, compression, delay, etc.) and graphic eq to the mix. Should effects be added before or after compression? Should the compressed/effected mix be eq'd? What's the general order for doing this in a...

    Confused

I could be wrong about this, but I'll do my best to provide an answer. There is no way to actually link your FD-8 to record on your PC's hard disc, if that's what you are referring to. You can, however, record on the FD-8 and then go from the RCA line out jacks into your computers sound card's...
