gosh, sorry to bore you. ...of course, why did you read all the way to the bottom, yawn audibly, and then post a reply? at least the thread gave you something to occupy your time with... kept you off the streets I think I'll go with "Platform is IRRELEVANT" and start thinking more in terms of...

    structure

why I want to do it is because, as you say, it seems really interesting. I guess I tend to leave writing 'good', 'catchy' songs that 'pay' to others, and I write what interests me, which by the way I don't hear a lot of. I base my personal musical archetypes on stuff I sort of come up with...

    What's wrong with popular music?

it's the same in hip hop as in other genres: the artists you hear about are the shitty ones. if you sort of do some digging on your own, you'll come up with some quality eventually. I guess it's a matter of priorities. Imagine if the government decided to pay anyone who was interested in music a...

    structure

well I was reading the liner notes for a Tangerine Dream box set I got from the library, and it was saying they sometimes composed using a prismic structure. Does anyone have any idea what that might mean? is it like A-A-B-A-B-C-A-B-C-D-A-B-C-D-E... arranged in a triangle? Also, does anyone...

    > chrisjob well nah, what I'm thinking at this point, with my limited set-up, is just to obtain samples from records, I'd only be using one player. and sort of tweak the speed to various degrees. But I wouldn't be doing any mixing of records type stuff. an auto arm is when the arm is carried...

Getting rid of fret noise from .... of course guitar.

technique from personal experience, when you're not pleased with the recording of you playing guitar, it's often telling you you need to sharpen your technique more. (Or else it's that you're too stiffish, not 'live'-sounding enough.)

What It Takes To Be Progressive

listen to Aja by Steely Dan. Not the whole album so much, but the title song. fits my definition of progressive somewhat, anyways. although it's almost more jazz than rock, inasmuch as it's a blend of both.
