Hendrix Clapton Jimmy Page Django Segovia John Williams Larry Carlton Pepe Romero Johnny Greenwood Al DiMeola Cockburn Don Ross (grudgingly) Malmsteen Leo Kotke hmm, I need 6 more... well that's a start. Maybe I'll edit in some more when I think of 'em. When's this vote close?

classical vs steel-string - machine head orientation

friction pegs are a pain in the ass, agreed. the purists are into them, but my violin has fine-tuners down past the bridge on all four strings. I thumb my nose at purists (when it's convenient to do so).

classical vs steel-string - machine head orientation

You should definitely have your strings so the windings don't overlap....Again, it's something many people don't think about, including me, most of the time. yeah, I've never really thought about it---correction, it occurs to me (for the first time consciously) that I sometimes actually make...

classical vs steel-string - machine head orientation

Someone stringing a guitar with vertical posts properly should know how many turns around the post it takes for each string to have the right down angle, and how much the strings will stretch so they end up with the right amount of turns. so with my steel string, should I be trying to optimize...

    screws at the nut?

only once, I played a friend's electric and it had screws that held down the strings at the nut. It sorta locked the tuning in place, so you could really reef on the whammy bar. What're those screws called? Does anyone here have them/like them/not like them?

classical vs steel-string - machine head orientation

The string post on many nylon string guitars is oriented differently than on steel string guitars yeah, I know, why? the nylon strings are just much thicker and would probably tend to pop off yeah. also I think there's quite a bit less tension with nylon strings rather than steel strings. I...

classical vs steel-string - machine head orientation

okay, who can tell me why the string-winders (proper name?) are oriented parallel to the frets on a classical guitar, but perpendicular on a steel-string guitar?

    what's Logic Pro 7 like?

is Logic Pro 7 the newest in the Logic line-up? does anyone use it? I've never seen it, but I have used GarageBand. how is Logic different from GarageBand? I've only really used Fruity Loops and GarageBand. They're both very click-and-drag, visually-oriented programs. Is logic (or other...

    Confidence in your own stuff...

for me, it's this shakey faith I'm forced to have in myself. First I get an idea, and everything's great; the idea is perfect because it exists only in theory. Then when I try to execute the idea, unforseen realities begin cropping up, and I become very intimate with my work---so much so that I...

    Sampling Methods

humbly, yes, the sampler's purity was defiled by dispicably lazy DJ's ape-goings. sample-based music is appreciated from different angles compared to some other musics: there's an element of virtuosic performance to the best of them, a personality and taste with which one becomes familiar...

    Sampling Methods

vocals tend to be in the center? is that as specific as it gets? and so, to remove vocals from a sample, you just drop the center frequencies??
