    The Cloth Trick

Hey Any of you guys use the cloth trick? It's where you wrap a clothe around the top of the neck and that mutes all unwanted noise when playing a solo. I find it necessary with a lot of delay otherwise I don't need it. Just a question, will this throw it out of tune?

    My first "serious" recording

Sounds good! Personally I prefer a little more upfront vocals... louder and clearer but that's just me!

    I need a compresser!

Ok I guess I'm not going for the limiter! I haven't taken the bass seriously in my recordings since I didn't know how to play it. Currently I have been going direct into the firebox but that is the cheap way around. I have been recommended countless times into this...

    I need a compresser!

I'm recording direct with the Presonus Firebox. I'm using a plugin called blockfish as a limiter and there is not many controls and I can't dial it in very well. I know a limiter doesn't change the actual tone but I can't get my recordings loud enough without it clipping on the firebox and when...

    I need a compresser!

Well since I have no idea which to choose I'll have to take someone's word for it. I don't know which direction to go in! Maybe someone else can throw in there 2 cents.

    I need a compresser!

Hey guys. I've been using a free vst plugin compressor and want something that actually helps with sound quality. Don't need anything special, 2 channels is enough. Was looking at this: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Alesis-3630-Dual-Channel-Compressor-Limiter-with-Gate-100059904-i1125236.gc...

    Vista compatibility questions

I've got vista 64 bit and have used both USB and Firewire. Both have worked great! Never had any problems (some wierd things happen occasionally but never something major). I actually have the firebox and it's great on vista from what I have expierence. I hear about all these vista issues...

    Bass Picking up Buzz

Hey so I got a bass tonight (first time I've ever played a bass, and I bought it). It's a Schecter Stiletto C-4 and I like it. However, when I recorded some bass tracks, I notice it picking up a lot of buzzing from the strings. It also picked up a lot of playing noise. Is this normal since I...

    The order of instruments...

Hmm. The click track is something I never have tried. I'm going to play around with that for a while, see what happens. That's another thing, I need to figure out the transposing features and stuff so I can easily lay down my own drumtracks instead of using the premade ones in EZDrummer. The...

    The order of instruments...

I have jumped into music with no idea what I'm doing. I've recorded some nice tracks and wondering if I'm doing everything right. What I'm doing is laying drum tracks down then guitar and then bass. I suppose there is no "wrong" way to record as the final product will sound pretty much the...

    Soundproof Door?

Haha, I would love to go through a blast door into my studio but it's a little pricey. For the office divider, that is a great idea but I'm not sure if it will fit. There's a closet so it's narrow when enter. I suppose I could block the whole area off, except the ceiling slopes in becuase of...

    Soundproof Door?

Well my neighbors are no problem becuase they deal with the dirtbikes, fourwheelers, snowmbiles, chainsaws and lots of other noise so me over 500 yards away isn't gonna bother them. Plus I have parents to deal with, it's just me up there jamming. All the other walls are and floor are ok becuase...

    Soundproof Door?

We live up on a big hill in the middle of the woods so no traffic (except dirtbikes snd 4 wheelers occasionly) and the closest neighbor is far away. The problem is noise that gets to the rest of the house from the room. The bedrooms are in the hallway that you walk down to get to the room so...

    Soundproof Door?

I'm located in a spareroom, above a garage. It's pretty nice, great for a studio because I can do anything to it. The only problem I have is noise leaking through to inside the house. I don't exactly know where, but I suspect it's the door. The current door is a firedoor (outdoor door). The room...

    ground loop problem

From what I've heard, the Hum-X works very well but I've never used it myself. I think, but I'm no expert at this, that in order to have a ground loop you need 1 thing plugged into a outlet, and another plugged into a different outlet. But those 2 things needs to be connected (such as an amp...

    Where is your studio located?

I'm in a spare room, but it's not a spare room anymore... it's a guitar/studio room. It's located above the garage, so when the garage door gets put up or down, the room shakes. No jumping or playing around is aloud, the floor is kinda weak and has the truss ceiling (except it's all insulated...

    Firewire Interface and ExpressCard Firewire...

SIIG's FW express card was cheaper so I'll go with that: http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=NN-EC2012-S1 That's the right thing, right? It says TI chipset so I think it is. Would I need the power supply, I know the firebox has a seperate supply but I'm not sure if the device needs to be...
