    a compressor or a pre amp for my 488MKII?

    i have a tascam 488MKII and a RODE NT1. i was thinking of getting either a pre amp or a compressor, can anyone give me the pros and cons of using pre amps and compressors with cassette recorders? and maybe some affordable models? much thanks.
