i cannot recommend reaper enough. its 50 dollars for a personal use version and has tons of fx and features that you need. www.reaper.fm

DI + ampsims = kick ass unless you have a (great sounding) room of awesome amps, mics, and stomp boxes, and ability to use them combined -- you cannot beat it.

think out of the box. mix IN the box. with modern soundcards and plugins, nothing else makes sense, unless you are just so used to the old ways and get better results.
