    Fifty dollar mics poll

I voted ES57. Just a fantastic value and solid mic. I also like the AT2020 on the list. Nice SDC hiding in an LDC shell with a crisp response.

    Don't blame the equipment...

The band broke up in the early 2000's. I'm hoping to put a new group together this year and release a solo album. In the mean time, I'm busy with www.frugalguitarist.com.

    Don't blame the equipment...

The Fostex had 4 inputs, but you could only record 2 tracks at a time and we had 3 mics. So bass drum and over head were recorded to one track and snare to the other. We kept the snare separate so we could add compression and figured the bass drum and overhead's frequencies were far apart...

    Don't blame the equipment...

I finally got a chance to create an archival site for my old band Floodwaters on myspace (http://www.myspace.com/floodwaterstexas). Why am I posting about it here? The songs uploaded were all from our original demos which got us plenty of gigs. Here was our setup: All drums were recorded...

Whats the main difference with guitar single effect unit and multi-effects ?

I would say this is a matter of opinion and subject to individual taste rather than a general strength or weakness. I think you'll see Boss pedals on the boards of countless pros who's tones have been lusted after by millions. True Bypass would be absolutely last on my list. Trust your ears...

Whats the main difference with guitar single effect unit and multi-effects ?

The biggest draw back to using multi-fx units is you are bound to that companies interpretation of a given effect. So whila unit might do delay and chorus very well, the distortion sound may be mediocre or vice versa. Individual pedals allow you to mix units by different manufacturers to really...

I Keep Going Back To My Multi-Effects Unit

I have the opportunity to play through a different rig every month or so due to the reviews I do for www.frugalguitarist.com so I might be playing a small tube amp and a stompbox one day and a floorboard direct the next and have learned to be comfortable and find usable tones playing through...

"the true secret to great amp tone"

I haven't read that before but it certainly makes sense. If you read up on the schematics of preamp and OD/dist pedal designs, placing EQ boosts in the circuit before and after clipping stages is a time tested and classic method to voice drive. This is applying that same principal to an...

    Peavey ReValver III

Thanks. On my publishing schedule, I never get to spend enough time on the backing tracks.

    Peavey ReValver III

Of course, you're entitled to your opinion. I get as many complements as I get criticisms and take it all with a grain of salt. It takes thick skin to put your real name and reputation on the line month after month. I use SONAR which has similar time shifting abilities. But why even double...

    Peavey ReValver III

IMHO, you really don't need quad tracking to make something sound huge. In fact, I think you can do it with a single track with some processing. Here's a sample clip from the FrugalGuitarist.com review of the Boss GT-10: link. The rhythm track is panned 100% left and I have a very short and dry...

    Outboard Amp Modeling Systems

I just reviewed the Boss GT-10 on FrugalGuitarist.com. Here's a link to a clip using a Jay Turser Cleopatra: and the full review can be read here

    Recomend me a cheap semi-hollowbody

I was going to say Jay Turser...What's wrong with their headstocks? I just reviewed the Cleopatra (below left) for FrugalGuitarist.com and, minor issues aside, a very nice guitar. I've played one of their 133's (335 copy below right)in a burst finish as well and was pretty impressed.

What exactly do you mean by "clear"? Is it sounding muffled? Could you post a sample? I reviewed that for FrugalGuitarist.com (full review here)and feel it's pretty much the best amp modeling software I've heard. With regards to tips, the easiest thing is to just start with presets to see...
