For your sound, I would recommend my most hated brand, zildjian. It has that clear hi end sound. How long will you be drumming? If longer than 2 years, go for a pro set. You probably won't if you're a newer drummer, but I can guarrantee you ten thousand times over....the only budget cymbals...

The one thing I don't know how to do is check and see if something is balanced or unbalanced. For example, if I hooked up one channel to a 1/4", could I plug it into a 1010 pci card in my pc? It only has 2 wires per channel, so that's unbalanced, right? But the manual seemed to....fuck I'll...

I do have the cable, and coming out the other side are sixteen small wires coresponding to each channel....so does that mean analog audio is running through them and I could wire them to 1/4" or rca?

For my own kit, I am planning on micing in this manner: 1 hihat 2 overhead 1 snare 3 toms 1 bass drum On an 8 track analog multi of mine, the toms and the overheads (and maybe the hihat) will be bussed for a total of 5 tracks, with a guitar, bass, and vocals or something similar.

Wow, that's a lot of information! Yeah my plan will be to record through a firewire mixer, so I will have the tape records and the multitracks on the computer. I'm not gonna worry about synching one with the other; they'll be seperate beasts. I'll probably have 16 mulltis on the pc and buss...

I paid $125 total for it...I was worried all I could do was bounce tracks (whatever than means) or record only 2 or 4 tracks at one time. When you say leave a cushion in the middle of the tape...does that mean you nomrally leave maybe 30 secs in between each song? I'll be doing 2-5 minute...

I doubt it's worth a lot more than that, it's two tracks right? Search ebay for reel to reel players...

I just acquired an 8 track TOA MR8T. It has a multitrack studio master cassette tape in it, and it has 8 tracks...but how do they work? It's not the cartridge type tapes....it looks like a cassette but I have no idea how it differs. Are there four tracks on each side? What's the quality...
