It made sense to me, I knew the basics of phase but your post gave some more detail as to how it practically works; like in cases of delay and the unpredictability. I still don't understand why those I quoted above were talking about switching the phase of different tracks taken at different...
Hydraulics sound terrible! On my kit as well as some metal bands that I've been able to pick out when hearing them on TV! They just don't have a good sound, boxy, weak. Get a coated double ply, or moongel, or damping rings, I highly don't recommend hydraulics, unless you don't like the sound...
Here were some confusing posts to me in sequential order from THIS thread:
I did some googling, found info that mentioned it, but can someone first give me a basic idea of absolute polarity, and the practical consequences it may have while doing micing, tracking and overdubbing? I was...
Recording with a kbm412 on a bass drum and an es-57 on guitar is limiting, yet I haven't even come close to their potentials - it's always due to poor planning, lack of time, or some other unpredictable variable. I've never even gotten %80 percent as good of a recording as I think I could with...
I don't see why this would be a good thing. When adding a layer, it's an entirely new track, I've never heard of reversing polarity of a new track like that just because it's 'safer'.
I'm sure you're been asked before, but what sample rate do you send out to say, a VLA, and get it returned the same I presume? You do a D/A then A/D for mastering compression?
The stuff you quoted there was after you told the kid he's wrong. When using a metronome to describe drum speed it's best to disambiguate first, rather than call a kid names, imho.
The funny thing I found was that you guys weren't arguing about the point of misinterpretation. Which means that you weren't arguing with anyone at all. The fact is that a metronome works with 'beats per minute' but the assigned metronome beats to the music/time signature can be and are...
Yes, well the reason why I pointed this out is to let you know that there's a disconnect in the understandings of people in this thread. I don't think you get that no person was arguing that they could play 800bpm with one hand. Yet you had an argument about it.
Regarding ambiguity, a 64th...

If you set it on 200bpm, and those are quarter notes, play a single stroke roll of sixteenths. At that speed it's not too uncommon to see rolls from toms to snare, and back etc.
I'm going to do a band session this summer, and am thinking I'll pick up and mod an Apex 205. I was wondering about this mic and moreso ribbon mics as drum overheads in general - I am looking for a less harsh and white-noise-y sound, but one thing I'm worried about is whether or not I'll get...
And I note the unimpressive results I get with vertical overheads with the ironic fact that the best balance of sound I've ever gotten from drums was the first recording I ever did about 6 years ago in high school, with an MXL 990 about 5' up from the ground and about6' from the front of the...
Slightly behind and lower; this is exactly how I've been thinking I could get the best sound. Then I'd want two mics. More toms and less weird things in the way of the drum heads (ie cymbals or even toms), and more equidistant between the cymbals and drums.
I did, made playback MUCH smoother. Set buffer to 512. I just haven't had the time to test yet since the session is over.
The DMPA: GREAT upgrade from my prosumer/lowend digital pres (Alesis io|26). I did measure the tube voltage at one point 1.5 years ago, I remember it being either in the...
