    Help me spend 3500 dollars!

Now that makes a lot more sense. Even though a hard drive isn't what anyone would call a true backup medium, the redundancy from having multiple copies will get you a long way.

    Help me spend 3500 dollars!

Well, what's half of double? So there is no security gain in adding an extra hard drive.

    Help me spend 3500 dollars!

Separate partitions on one hard drive will take you a long way. That's what I do. Adding more hard drives to the equation doesn't make your projects less prone to hard drive crashes. Two hard drives = double the chance of a crash.

    Help me spend 3500 dollars!

If I was to record only one or two channels I wouldn't bother about an external hard drive. I recorded 4 tracks (24/44.1) simultaneously on my laptop (with stock 4500rpm hard drive) a few weeks ago through my new firewire interface and I think I haven't even started pushing the whole setup yet.

    B1 or C1 - Difference in cost = better quality/sound?

 I'll have what he's having!

    Behringer XM8500 on toms!

I have no idea how it works on toms. It was my first mic and for 15,- it's not a bad mic to have. Now it's the least mic in my humble collection of 12 (I have other dynamics like e604's, 421's and a 441) but it's well built and a month ago I was glad I still had it lying around to serve as a...

    Behringer UB502 problems, cutting off.

Dunno what's causing it. But a fuse sounds unlikely to me. Then it wouldn't do anything at all.

    Firewire vs. PCI vs. USB?

So both USB 2.0 and Firewire pump 10 bits per cycle through the bus? Really? You're the first one I see comparing PCI, Firewire and USB by using MHz. There must be a reason why everybody else does it per bit/byte. Progamming drivers for 4 years doesn't mean much really. A brilliant...

    What's limiting YOUR recordings??

My room is seriously keeping me from recording. Too small, too crowded and too noisy and no ways to improve it unless I find a bigger house/apartment (which I hope to do next year). I'll never learn the art of recording properly in this dump. :(

whats the coolest guitar you ACTUALLY own(ed) ????

My Music Man Sterling. Black body, black pick guard, maple neck. It's pure eye candy. The tone isn't 100% what I look for in a bass, but it's a funk monster and the neck feels just wonderful.

    Looking for sound card....

I'd go for the M-Audio Audiophile. I've used one for around a year, in particular used the coax spdif extensively and it worked flawlessly. One of the most popular sound cards amongst HR members and not without a reason.

Is the MXL V67G the best LDC for less than $100 for vocals?

I bought my V67G around a year ago and I still think it looks cheezy :D

    Toying around with two options...

I have the Fireface and while it's a great unit as a whole, the preamps aren't what I expected. You don't get much gain while turning the gain knob until like 9 on the scale from where the gain jumps dramatically when you turn it further to 10. That makes them fairly useless for mics that...

    Notebook and firewire

More rpms is better but in my experience 7200rpm drives are hyped. You don't NEED 7200 rpm drives to record. Two weeks ago I let my laptop track a musical I was in. 4 tracks of 44.1/24 on a HP Pavilion laptop with stock hard drive and an RME Fireface 800, it went smooth and I'm sure I can push...

    EMU 1212 needs more inputs

In other words: The 1212m has ADAT (digital) I/O which accounts for 8 channels in and out. An affordable solution to get use out of that is for instance a Behringer ADA8000.

Hello all, I could use some advice...

The line input is a stereo input opposed to the mic input which is mono. When you plug a mono jack plug in a stereo connector, what you get is that the signal goes to the left channel and the right channel gets shorted out. You can work around this. How depends on the recording software you're...

    Notebook and firewire

This probably sounds too obvious but just checking: You do use the power supply that came with the Quatafire instead of trying to run it buspowered, right?

    solution for laptop and pc

USB, ok. But tell me what is 'some' reason to dismiss firewire already. My RME Fireface is serving me pretty well on both PC and laptop.
