    PCI Audio Interfaces??

True in some cases but absolutely not totally true. Ever heard of Lynx soundcards?

    M-S Decoding

I doubt there is an easier way in Cubase SX but you'll get it done perfectly fine how you described it. I've done it in SX before.

How much RAM are you using, 2005.

512MB, just like 2 years ago. I'm in no rush to upgrade. It runs just fine for my needs.

    A/D Converters

You're working from the wrong way. Start with the microphone. You didn't even mention which microphone you're using. Also, don't expect a cheap Samson preamp to be an improvement over the Digi001 preamps. If your current setup consists of Samson and Behringer gear then stick with the 001 for...

    PCI or USB interface?

If the soundcard picks up those kind of noises, it's just not a very good soundcard. Arguably the best recording interfaces available on the market, those by Lynx, are internal PCI-cards. You won't hear Lynx users complain about static.

    Sound card -

As a rule, the stock soundcard in these pre-built PC's are not well suited for recording, if at all. I'd say the bare minimum requirements for a recording interface would be 24 bits recording capability, and the availability of ASIO and WDM drivers. Be prepared to shell out some extra cash for...

bougt an md421 with Tuchel to TS connector -cable ..change to xlr?

This might be of help. It helped me when I had to solder an XLR to small Tuchel/DIN/whatever-it-is-called cable: http://www.vandenhul.com/artpap/wiring.htm

    Choice of Audio Interface

The Fireface is a solid performer (I have one) but if you're not interested in a shitload of I/O options but sheer sound quality (which the Fireface by all means doesn't lack by the way) you might want to check out the Lynx interfaces. I haven't played with one yet but people seem to be blown...

    Tech21 Sansamp Bass DI

I also own a bass driver DI and all I can say it's one of those pieces of gear in the industry that's always good to have around.

    DIGI 002 Rack quick question

I bet the manual will confirm this: Yes you can.

    XP Pro VS. XP Home

Not sure if it's that much more resource hungry but yes, it is. It eats more RAM. To be honest, I just logged on to my Windows 2003 server and it doesn't have that many more processes running than the average XP Pro computer, especially considering it's a domain controller running DNS, DHCP...

    Firewire interfaces...

RME Fireface 800. I have one and you won't find a firewire box with more I/O's anywhere else.

    M audio Delta 1010

The 1010 doesn't have phantom power. it doesn't even have mic preamps. All analog inputs and outputs are 1/4'' a.k.a. "large" jacks. The 1010LT has 2 preamps but they don't come with phantom power either.

SIS mobo swap to an Nforce2 mobo

Personally I can't see how swapping a motherboard can improve the sound quality. Frankly I think it's all between your ears but I happily stand corrected if anyone can make it feasible.

    M-Audio firewire or USB?

I'll tell you that it IS true. You're far less likely to run into troubles using a firewire interface than using USB.

    DMP3 to Audiophile 2496

What you need is a mono cable with a cinch connector on one side and an unbalanced (a.k.a. TS) mono jack on the other. Two of those if you want to use both channels. Don't bother with balanced cables. The Audiophile inputs (and outputs) are cinch, therefore unbalanced. Plug the unbalanced mono...

    Notebook / Laptop Ideas?

Bullshit. It all depends on your demand. As of yet, I haven't come to a point where I had to consider upgrading the 4200rpm drive in my laptop.

Read this if you're ordering a Fireface 800

You'd expect such an expensive unit to come with decent cables  Mine came with a working cable. Glad you hear you've found the problem. It's a nice piece of equipment. I love how I can switch between laptop and PC.

    Fireface 800 PC/XP problems.

If the settings dialog box won't open when you click the icon in the taskbar, it's likely not properly detected. I have a Fireface (using it with a generic fw400 pci interface) and when it's not switched on, I see the same thing. So my first thought as well is that it isn't a software issue...

    Which M-Audio Interface is better?

Firewire all the way. USB is an unreliable interface when it comes to audio. Firewire is quite the opposite.
