    xlr inputs on soundcards..

Re: so how do i get my mics into pc? You need to bring the signal of your mic up to line level with a preamp. You may be able to use your Tascam for this, I am not familiar with the unit. RCA to Jack adapters are easy to find and cheap. There are many opinions on budget preamps on this site...

acoustic guitar: plugged in for more bass?

The MXL's will definately have more low end than the shure if they are the ones I am thinking about ( condensers made by Marshall ? ) But it sounds like you are going for a more extreme bottomy effect, in which case you will probably need eq of some sort, be it on your guitar or otherwise. To...

    Best Isolating Headphones (Live Mixing)

Hi all, long time no post. I'm doing alot of FOH mixing at the moment, and I would love to get my hands on a set of cans that attenuate outside sound as much as possible. I am using a set at the moment that a friend made from old bulding site earmuffs which are great, but I have to return them...

acoustic guitar: plugged in for more bass?

Proximity effect maybe ? Try putting one of the mics in real close to the body, maybe about 2" away at the twelfth-fourteenth fret or so pointing towards the soundhole. Many mics have an exaggerated low end response this close to a source I beilieve. You could experiment with moving the...

Pickup selector swith for Gibson EB-3

Okay here's the schpiel. I borrowed one of these basses from an aquaintance to do some tracking and promised to look after it. I proceeded to somehow break, and then lose the pickup selector switch. I can't seem to find an original anywhere for love nor money...does anybody have any suggestions...

    Mixing on Mackie HR-824's????

I don't think that particular distance (2' 7") will adversely affect what you're hearing. As far as the settings on the back go, you will have to describe you room and the speakers position in it in detail (a drawing would be helpful) for anyone to try and answer that. Are your mixes bass heavy...

M AUDIO sucks! Not my words btw..

Just for the record, a friend of mine got a 44, and I did a quick test recording of a drum kit and stereo keys using my 44 and his together (all 8 inputs). I recorded seven minutes 24bit with no problems (although there was a slight phasey sound which I put down to my drum mic positioning). Nathan

is there any way to mic a kick with 2 mics and have them "in" phase?

You have to zoom RIGHT in on the two waveforms and see if the curves line up together, I'm not sure if you can do that on your machine. pAp

    Stupid Newbie Question

I think Tex is saying that if the compressor/gate is not actually being used during the tracking process, then patch it out, as the shorter the physical signal path the cleaner the signal. pAp

SMPTE trigger with Yamaha RM1X ?

Hi all, long time no post. Hope this finds you all well. I was hoping someone here could help me with triggering the 'record' function in CEP 1.2 with the 'play' button on the Yamaha RM1x sequencersampler. My brother has some tracks he wants me to mix and I need to have them in sync. I usually...

Try the Cool Edit Pro demo at www.syntrillium.com or n-track from www.fasoft.com. Cheers, Nathan.

Anyone try the new M-Audio Delta series drivers?

I've been using the one for the 44 pretty much since it came out, and I've had no problems whatsoever for what it's worth. I use 98SE and Cool Edit, which uses MME. Cheers, Nathan

What OS for a Music Computer?

Win98SE stripped down to the bare necessities and optimized for audio (DMA enabled on HD's, permanent swapfile size, defrag often etc. ) is still the best option I think. XP has too much unnecessary crap tacked onto it IMHO. Nathan

Skips in Playback -- Soundcard issue???

I reckon another hard disk (preferably a fast one) will help skipping issues more than another soundcard...that's been my experience anyway. Nathan

Help the idiot out here... RE: Delta 44

Regarding that screenshot you posted...why are all the channels muted ? The 'monitor mixer' I am talking about is on the Delta controller in your screenshot...in the tab called 'Pathbay/Router', just set the output to 'monitor mixer', and unmute everything. You're right, your mixer has no...

Help the idiot out here... RE: Delta 44

Because you have a handy volume control for your headphones and monitors on your desk then. You should try using the channel inserts instead of the main outs also to recod into the Delta...and set the output in the Delta sofware to 'Monitor Mixer' Nathan

    Skips in Playback!

Try listing some more specifics, such as amount of RAM, no. of hard disks, speed of hard disks, OS etc. Actually fuck it, just post this in the Computer Recording and Soundcards forum...there are some good heads there, and this problem has more to do with your PC setup than n-track, I'll...

Help the idiot out here... RE: Delta 44

Read my post again...plug the outputs from your delta into the mixer, plug your headphones and monitors in to the mixer outputs (control room/heaphones out). Yes you might as well record mono are only using one mic. No you don't hate this stuff otherwise you wouldn't be online trying to get...

    Question

I actually checked this out 'cos I was thinking of buying a MOTU...how do you find it ? Anywayz this is from MOTU's website... I assume you are talking about Cool Edit Pro 2.0 ? If not, I'd check out on Syntrilliums Forums whether 1.2 supports 24-bit recording with ASIO drivers... Nathan
