I am going to buy a HD24, need mixer advice

Going to make the plunge. But, i need to get an "affordable" 24 channel mixing board to go with it. Yamaha? Mackie?........ What are you using or what do you suggest? Also, i will not be using a computer with this. It will be just HD24 and the mixer. Thanks -wietlispach

    Mics for overheads

Studio Projects C4's might be a good option. I use mine primarily as Drum Overheads, they come with shockmounts and both cardoid and omni capsules. They sell for $289 US$. I have read so many good things about the Oktava's, but you have to get a quality matched pair, not just two random ones...

Wow, thanks. Thats the kind of info that is so good to know. Looks like I will save the extra $ to buy the re20 instead.

    Possibly redundant pre-amp/mic question + 441/sm7

I got a sennheiser 441 today and noticed it needed a lot of fricken gain. It sounded good, but I was surprised at the juice it needed from my alesis mixer/board. It sounded better using my dmp3, at least in terms of gain. I was thinking about buying a shure sm7 next, but read somewhere on here...

AKG c1000 s Black or Silver and some other questions?

Besides the light, is there a difference? I just picked up a black one cheap. What does the switch do, mine does not seem to move, but the mic woks fine. It's missing that presence peak adapter it comes with, is that really worth having? This is one mic on this board that people either like...

    Possibly dumb question

Someone asked me to record his band at a club while they play live. The only issue I have is recording the vocals. If there is only one vocal mic and its going to the house PA, what are my options in getting that vocal. He can't sing into two mics. Is there a 2/1 box cheaply available? Do most...

    WTF is this?

Is this that Nady with a new name? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47069&item=3779601137&rd=1 Be an ironic name if it's made in China!

    alto sax mics

As an alto sax player, i have tried a lot of mics. For a clear honest tone I like the beyer m500. However, my cad m179 is really forgiving to my somewhat bright tone, and I have been happy with it on all my reeds. The day I put an sm57 on my horn in the studio is the day when everything else is...

Please rate my selection of mics

I'm not a fan of sm57's. You should get some sennheisers like someone else mentioned instead. There are a lot of better options. I would agree with not getting the R121, and the sugestion of the SM7 is spot on. An EV re20 or re27 will work also. Also, due to quality issues you might want to...

    peavey 520i / peavey 520tn

Is this the same mic or different? Only the "i" is listed on their website. Thanks.

looking for recording overhead condenser pair

for $300 you can get a matched pair of Studio Projects C4's. They come with both omni and cardoid capsules and shockmounts. I have them and I primarily use them as drum overheads. I think they are great! I have read a lot of great things about those Oktavas MC 012's, but you would have to get a...

    New Nady mic

http://www.nady.com/products/product_pgs/cmmics_pg2_b.html or www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/275560/ seems razer flat till about 10k. there does not seem to be any info on how quiet the mic is. if it's real quiet, might be a good deal.

    Isolation Headphones

Anybody ever tried those "extreme isolation headphones form direct sound"? Here is a link. http://www.frontendaudio.com/Extreme%20Isolation%20Headphones.htm I think they might be very usefull if as advertised. Do they sound okay? Are they real uncomfortable? Might be an x-mas gift to myslef.

    That Nady Ribbon is out

The best price I've seen is on EBAY. There is usually a BIN for $259. If I had the $ I would get it. Sometimes I see all these cool mic's and pre-amps and it's like porn. Eye Candy. I find myself staring at a Brauner VM1 Klaus Heyne Edition, undressing it with my eyes, thinking of all the places...

    Cad M179

I bought one of these a few months ago and last week was my first time trying it in a non testing application. I used it to mic my reeds in a free jazz group that I have. I usually use my beyer 500 or one of my groove tube tube mics for this. Wow, what an unusualy different sound. It was sure...

Make a new recording sound old?

a really cheap ass crappy mic would help too. I have bought a few vintage mics on ebay for cheap that sound terrible in terms of sound quality but are great for "colour".

Mic choice suggestions for upright bass

I have used lapel mics/saxaphone mics that attatch to the bell of the horn. I place them facing into one of the soundholes using a clip of some sort. This has given me some decent sounds without too much bleeding. Plus, its sounds great on bowing. My band right now has sometimes up to 3...

    Kurt Cobain style vocals

Steve Albini is not a fan of shure sm58's, so I highly doubt they were used to record Nirvana for In Utero. If you want to see what microphones were used to record Nirvana check out this link. http://www.electricalaudio.com/class.php?page=microphones There are also some funny descriptions of...
