    Acoustic Neck Surgery

Everything I've read says hide glue is the best thing to put back; it's reversible and doesn't cold creep. You'll just want to tighten the joint up (shims?) before re-gluing it. Not a professional repair person, so take this with a grain of salt.

    NGD-Les Paul Special copy

Sweet guit. I love P-90s, too, man. Nothing else has that nasty growl. I've got a set of GFS black soapbars just like that stashed away for a future project from when they went on sale for 22 bucks apiece a while back. I've been eying that same guitar for a while now, but I like the yellow...

    NGD - 12-string

Well, new to me, anyway -- this is more of a nursing-back-to-health case. A few weeks ago my neighbor gave me an old 12-string that had been sitting in his basement for 20 or so years. Said he had gotten it for his ex-wife many years ago, but her hands were too small to play it, so it never...

    Making a Gibson SG Clone

Thanks -- lot of good looking projects on there. I'll be following the archtop in particular; hopefully there will be one of those in my future as well. That's certainly going to be a thin heel.

Any in-progress shots of the Benedetto?

    Weird tuning problem.

    1) I'm not sure exactly what you're describing. Is this a pitch change that stays flat, so that you tune to correct it, or is this like the floppy-string syndrome where the harder you hit the string, the farther out of tune it goes, but it comes back up to the original pitch? I wonder if it's...

    Super Reverb Re-Do

Really great job; this looks fantastic. The "before" photo looks like it was attacked by a puma.

    Percussive Stompbox

Thanks for the info; those do sound like good ideas. If you find anything that works well, post it here.

    Percussive Stompbox

I'd think you'd want to remove wood if anything; to the best of my knowledge, thinner, floppier pieces of wood have lower resonant frequencies. I don't know much about these boxes, though. How big is this thing? What kind of pickup system goes in it? I'd be interested to see the pictures.

    Guitar For Young Kids

I know my brother started out pretty young on a baritone uke, but he was older than 5; he may have been closer to 10. Among the choices, I would think a uke would be a good place to start, though. Nylon strings would be better about not tearing up young fingers, and a four-stringed instrument...

    Which ukulele?

I want one of these Tahitian ones. Just another option.

    My Bass Project

Thanks. The short answer on the bridge is that the maple I've got is 3/4" thick and my scrawny bandsaw isn't big enough to resaw anything that tall. It's actually just the "practice bridge" I made to see if the overall structure would hold string tension; it sounded ok, so I never bothered to...

    My Bass Project

Thanks, guys. Yeah, bass banjo was what I was aiming at; that's why I went ahead and made a flat headstock instead of a scroll. I'm seen one these done with a drumhead mounted on a tub, and a few others made from old bass drums that were closer to those lines. I've just always thought archtop...

    My Bass Project

Oh, right, I forgot. sound sample. I think it sounds about like an upright bass. It's pretty loud.

    My Bass Project

It's taken a year + a summer, but my bass project is about done, and I thought you might like to see it. Specs: 40.25" scale. Stew-mac bass tuners. 24" galvanized tub body. Carved SPF top (lowes 2x12), with parallel bracing in lieu of a soundpost. Maple / walnut neck and endpin. Bloodwood...

    Gots me another bass

Certainly is pretty. What's the scale length?

    Removing acoustic guitar finish?!

Please don't do this. I suspect the sound has a lot more to do with the construction than the finish.

    Making a Gibson SG Clone

Nice save. If you were to put the electronics tunnel further down, would that change the location of the jack (did you just drill straight through from the side)? Or would you advocate drilling a smaller-diameter hole at a slight angle from the back control cavity? I like your approach better...

    Making a Gibson SG Clone

Really nice work so far, very clean. Since you're moving the jack to the side, have you considered one of these?
