    pickup swap???

The little 59 is available in neck position also. The hot rails are too muddy for the neck in my opinion.

    pickup swap???

Single coil sized humbuckers will get you fairly close, or if anything make the strat a little less thin sounding (asuming it's all 3 single coils right now)

Cool rails vs Little 59 neck

Anyone that is familiar with Seymour Duncan pickups or has tried both of these in the neck position I was just wondering what the differences are between them (aside from how rails have better balance while bending, etc.) They both are suposed to have vintage humbucker sound and seem to be...

    adjustable pole pieces

Are pickups with adjustable pole pieces just so you can make all the strings have the same volume, or does the sound actually change if you raise/lower all of them equally. What I mean is, what are the differences in sound between low pickup hight and high pole pieces vs high pickup height and...

    Best stacked humbucker??

I wish I had a sound file of what the Chopper sounds like in the bridge overdriven and what the Cruiser sounds like in the neck with a clean sound. Thats what I was originally going to do until the guy at my local music shop recomended a Seymour Duncan Little '59 for the bridge and Duckbuckers...

    Best stacked humbucker??

I've been looking at Dimarzio stuff also. Too bad their site barely has any sound files as opposed to Seymour duncan's has almost every pickup with a sound for every position, clean or overdriven.

    Best stacked humbucker??

I'm in the same situation except I can't decide between the stacked humbuckers or the side by side (rail?) singlecoil pickups. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

    Which stomp boxes?

Also replacing the pickups with ones with Alnico 2 or Ceramic magnets might help. The magnetic pull from the single coils may be killing the sustain.

    Truss rod?

Hmm well when I fret the first and last frets theres barely any gap between the string and the middle fret.

    Truss rod?

By the way, I just measured, and the distance between the low E string and the 12th fret is about half a centimeter. At the first fret, its almost touching it though.

    Truss rod?

The strings on my guitar are really far away from the frets at around the 12th fret and even further at the 22nd fret, yet if I lower the action any more, the strings touch the first fret causing extreme buzz. Is this a truss rod problem? Or are the strings not high enough at the nut? I know...

    out of phase

My friend did it on a cheap-ass stratocaster copy and it worked..are you sure it wont make a difference. Also arent telecasters suposed to be noise canceling in the middle position in the first place? I thought the out of phase was how they get that twangy, hollow sound.

    out of phase

Like how strats have the middle pickup out of phase so that positiions 2 and 4 are noise canceling. Single coil pickups tend to pick up noise from electrical wiring (and in the united states its the 60 Hz)

    out of phase

I'm about to reverse the leads on the neck pickup on my tele, so that its out of phase with the bridge pickup and the middle position will be noise canceling. Will there be much of a difference in tone if I do this? Since the pickups both sound so much different and all, it doesnt seem theres...

    Mic-ing a LOUD guitar amp?

Usually digital, but for the sake of finding the problem I've tried many different devices at the output stage (tape, soundcard, headphones, etc.)

    Mic-ing a LOUD guitar amp?

It's a Marshall JCM800 series WITH master volume, 4x12 cabinet. An acquaintance of mine suggested I get a variac, but I'm not sure what good that will do. I usually use channel 1 as channel 2 is too muddy. It seems to me that at lower volumes the speakers aren't being driven enough. I can't...

    dynamic vs condenser

The mic I have says it's a hypercardioid dynamic Lo-Z(Low impeadence, right?) That probably has something to do with it. I have no way of finding the impeadence of the pre input though.

    dynamic vs condenser

Yes it has input gain control but even when its low enough to keep the leds from going red (or low enough so you just barely hear a sound, for that matter) the sound is still overdriven. Not as noticable when the guitar amp is in overdrive, but on a clean channel you get undesirable effects...

    dynamic vs condenser

Thanks for the info. About not handling the amp I meant the sound gets distorted, but I think its the preamp and not the mic.

    dynamic vs condenser

What are the differences like in audio quality & maximum sound levels, etc? Does it depend on what they're being used for? Right now I'm using a dynamic mic for a guitar amp & some vocals, but it doesnt seem to handle the guitar amplifier.
