First real try at home-made album: Tell me what you think?

Good music; you guys have some talent. The drums are a bit muffled but otherwise this whole thing sounds excellent considering this is your first album. Btw, the last track is my favorite. Such a nice, mellow sound to it.

Are you saying you want the first minute of the track to be cut off? so basically it starts at the 1 min mark

    I saw a man

Cool song, has a nice feel to it. I agree with the other comment as well . . . the rhythm section could be a little bit more powerful. But anyways this is a great mix. Good job!

Newb looking for Piano/Vocal mix feedback

Great performance! He's a great singer and pianist. The piano actually sounds pretty good to me; it conveys the mood perfectly. But then again, I'm not sure exactly what it is that you envision in your head. Also, I agree that the vocals are a little bit muffled and unclear as said above...

    cover of "The Parting Glass"

Thanks for the feedback. We will probably bring up the key to a C#. And I'll have to try out some different chords; I was pretty much just playing along with her without having practiced much! We'll both work on it some more. Thanks again for the tips.

    cover of "The Parting Glass"

Here is a cover of the traditional song "The Parting Glass" as done by my girlfriend and I. This is just a demo that we recorded earlier; we will hopefully be taking it to the studio soon as part of our next album. Let me know what you think. Again, this is only a demo...

Low End Equipment vs High End Experience

The song "I'm Not There" by Bob Dylan is my all time favorite song, yet the production and sound quality are both horrible. It's one of those rare songs that would sound good no matter how badly it was recorded.

    Approaches to mixing an album?

Very good info - thanks for sharing, everyone. I'll have to try out some of these techniques.

    Approaches to mixing an album?

I have a few projects coming up that 'll be mixing and I was wondering what kind of approach other people like to take towards the whole thing. For example; what tracks do you mix first, when do you start panning out different tracks, when do you add EG, compression, etc. Typically, depending...

New mix for my first instrumental EP album

I agree that it could use more "width." Also, the drums lack some life and the mix as a whole seems to lack some dynamic range. I love the guitar in the beginning, though. Overall, pretty awesome mix. It could still use a little more work though.

Are you as good a songwriter as the pros ?

It seems like all the songs I write that I don't like, are the most well-recieved by others and vice-versa. Besides, I don't really care too much about what other people think of my music. I don't write songs to please other people, I write them because it's something I love to do and it keeps...

    Gear vs. Experience

I think experience is most important. Having nice gear is awesome, but it's up to the person using the gear to make the best out of it. You have to be willing to experiment with things and not limit yourself to your gear.

    new amp

I was just looking at some tube amps and I'll probably just save up for some time and get something more worthwhile. My grandfather has an old Gibson "Falcon" tube amp from the 60's that I love to use, so I'll probably just play that for a while until I can afford something. Thanks for the advice.

Advice for a noob? Which Microphone and USB audio interface should I buy?

Good for you . . . the Rode NT1 seems like a nice mic. I was looking into getting one of those myself in the past and I probably will someday. Good luck, I hope things work out well for you!

    new amp

Right now I have an old Peavey Rage 158 amp that I've been stuck with for quite a while. I'm looking at getting a new amp, possibly the "Fender 25R Frontman II 25W 1x10 Combo" amp. It seems like a pretty good deal to me, and I like the built in reverb knob. I play mostly folk-rock, blues, and...

Advice for a noob? Which Microphone and USB audio interface should I buy?

Condenser microphones need phantom power, it's dynamic mics that don't use it. The PreSonus Audiobox won't work with an acoustic-electric guitar plugged directly in, it doesn't seem to be made for that. But you could always look into buying another mic to record the guitar (in my opinion, it...
