I'm running it into a Fender M80 amp. I'm trying to mic a classical guitar but I simply cannot get any volume. I've cranked the volume up to 7 or so and still it's very soft. What am I doing wrong? I didn't think the SM57 required a pre-amp?
The problem mainly is I lose track of how many times I've played it and have to start over. I guess I just need to practice it more before recording it. I may experiment with looping, but that almost sounds like cheating - I mean I want the song to sound natural and looping it might make it...
I'm thinking this must be a common question. When laying down the first track (in my case acoustic rythym guitar,) how do you keep up with how many times you play the progressions? For example, Im working on a version of Led Zeppelin's "That's the Way," and the guitar plays this chord...
True, there are better mixers but for the money, and if you're on a budget, it's a great bargain. My main point was just that a mixer can be a lot more usefull than a high quality pre for a beginner's setup. Anyway, good luck!
I'd opt for the one with more channels if you think you'll need them. In my case, I only needed 4 channels so got the 802. The nice thing is, you can setup your channels and leave them w/o having to tweak them every time. For instance, when recording electric I use channel 1 and acuoustic I...
I'll still a novice but I'll chime in. My advice is to get a Behringer UB802 mixer instead of the pre. The reason is, it's really nice to have a mixer! And the DMP3 is $150 compared to $50 for the mixer. The DMP3 is definately a better quality pre than the ones on the mixer (or so I've...
Hey there. I have a similar setup (minus the compressor.) Just run the mics into the pres on the mixer. Then go out of the mixer into the sound card. Use the VU meters on the computer to set the levels. Press Record and play away!
I'm just starting out, but have had nothing but good things to say about Cool Edit Pro. It's a great multi-track recorder PLUS a very good editor. Not to mention it's got great help files.
I looked at Cakewalk, but ended up liking CEP better. One thing though, is that CEP does not record...
Actually, in multitrack when I raise a track's level fader too much, the VU meter at the bottom of the screen shows it to be clipping and in the red. So, are you saying ignore that until the final mix?
Hi dobro. What is preferred? Adjusting all the individual tracks' levels higher OR raising the mixed down level? The reason I ask is, when doing the latter, I've found I really can't raise it too much or else it will clip at some point.
What is the maximum you can turn up the master volume to, to avoid distortion? It defaults to 0db, and I thought anything above zero db was bad in recording.
Okay, but like I said, even though I save it mono, I still hear out of both speakers when I play it back. True, I have everything panned to center so maybe if I did some L, R panning I'd see a difference. I'll experiment and let you know..
I recorded several guitar tracks then mixed it down. When I save my mix (using CE Pro,) in stereo it makes a larger file. But, when I play it back it doesn't sound any different than if I save it in mono, I.E. the sounds come out of both speakers at once. Is there any reason to save it in...
Thanks dobro. I forgot one other thing. How can I slow down the playback of a track so I can find a small part to fix? For example I have a chair squeak that was recorded that I want to get rid of. When I edit the track and zoom in, I can't find the exact spot that I want to fix because it's...
Hello everyone. Just 2 easy questions here. First, how can I add an effect, like amplify, to multiple tracks at once? It seems like you have to do that in the Edit Wav view, and you can only have 1 track there at once (I think.)
Secondly, what is better to make tracks louder? Using...
Okay, I think I've got it now. I did try to use "mix" previously, but it always converted it to stereo. By changing it to mono, it does what I want it to. Thanks for your help.
