    Polyrhythms in Sonar?

Meta, I've been screwing around with polyrhythms for a few years now. Steve Vai's article is excellent. I have it bookmarked and come back to it every once in a while. So far I haven't attempted anything quitee as crazy as some of his last examples but I've got some pretty whacky stuff going on...

    Polyrhythms in Sonar?

Excellent, Thanks AlChuck That is what I meant by "doing the math" but it looks like that's the only way to go for me.

    Polyrhythms in Sonar?

Or I guess you could say 2 half notes in the space of a whole.. 2:1. But I don't think that really counts as a polyrhythm.

    Polyrhythms in Sonar?

Correct. The most basic polyrhythm is the triplet (3:2 or 3 notes in the space of 2). Only I want complicated ones like 7:4 and 7:5.

    Polyrhythms in Sonar?

No, I don't mean odd-meter (that's easy to do) and I don't mean poly-meter. What I mean is I want 7beats in the place of 4 quarter notes in one bar (7:4 polyrhythm). I had a dinky old program called Trax from about 11 years ago that could do polyrhythms easily. I use soundfonts to program drum...

    Polyrhythms in Sonar?

Does anyone know if there is a way to create polyrhythms in Sonar? I have yet to figure it out. As far as I can see, I'm limited to regular note values (i.e. quarter-notes, eighth-notes...) and I don't really feel like doing the math either.

    Impedance explained?

ALMOST all guitars and basses are high impedance. My guitar has an EMG 707 pickup which has a pre-amp built in. It runs on a 9v battery and the signal is low impedance. It makes for a much hotter signal and because it is low impedance, it is not affected by interference from lights or other...

    headphone mastering

Headphones generally aren't good for mastering. Sure there you can get lucky and there are always exceptions. With headphones your right ear gets the right speaker and your left gets the left .. but when you listen to a pair of speakers both ears get a mix of both speakers. This is how it's...

making the bass drum sound like pantera

This is from Terry Date himself (Pantera, Prong.. etc) Terry Date: On drums, I will use ambient miking. My drum miking is pretty standard. With the snare, I tend to use a [Shure SM] 57 on the top head only, in a position where I can get as much rejection of the hi-hat as possible. For the kick...

    Vocal polishing...

If you are "singing" a 58 isn't your best choice. Get a condenser. If you are "screaming" a 58 should do just fine. As far as mastering a track, look into T-Racks 24. Great mastering software.

    Minidisc recording/mics

Mini-discs suck. The fact that they are tiny and portable is good.. but because of the reduction in size, the audio is compressed quite a bit (similar to mp3) and IMO quality suffers greatly.. especially high end.

    Learning to sing well

I don't think anyone has mentioned this: Breathe with your stomach not your chest.. forcing the air up from your diaphragm.

    Learning to sing well

Hey man, I am with you on the singing thing. My voice was generally thin and weak. It didn't project well and my notes wavered quite a bit. I made a conscious effort to make my voice better about 1 1/2 months ago. I decided to start practicing every day... at least 5-10 minutes a day. It is...
