Final mixes on new album - mix #1 = choices

Hey fellow Utah person... long time/etc. Reminds me of some Test for Echo-era Rush. Mix wise everything sounding decent on regular-listening-environment speakers here. Given that most music will be heard in less-than-optimal sound chambers....

My first finished song and mix in YEARS!

Hey, I remember you tubedude :D Man yeah, probably a decade eh? Been away a while myself. Music sounds pretty cool... Army of Anyone and Soundgarden come to mind. Well balanced mix from what I can tell in this "non ideal" listening environment. I've come to realize that feedback from people in...

F TRUMP - (Highly political song) in need of mix feedback.

Another familiar name from way back! Good to see you're still recording and sounding good. Excellent arranging skills as always.

    My Friend Ben

Marsha Marsha Marsha! (Or was it Marcia Marcia Marcia?) :D Saw a familiar name in here while breezing by and thought I'd check your tune just for fun (computer speakers, with people using power tools outside). What I'm saying is that this is an uncritical environment in terms of "what to fix...

Feedback on newest mix? - Climb The Wall

Yes. Just the very beginning of words that start with consonants. It doesn't work as well with words starting with vowels. Not sure how often it is used. I picked this up some time ago (probably from Sound on Sound), and it seems to work.

Feedback on newest mix? - Climb The Wall

His review put to words a lot of the thoughts I had on the choruses. You can do a few things to bring the vocs forward: --Parallel compression to emphasize some of the vocal brightness (take a copy of the vocal comp, put an extreme high-pass filter on it, compress it heavily >20:1, and put it...

"Toss It All Behind" A tale of unrequited

Seems like the vocals are clipping in several places. Wondering if they were recorded hot? Like TripleM, I'm hearing the crispies. Check to see if the vocals clip without any inserts active, because what may happen is the vocals go hot into a plugin where they are then compressed and don't...

Feedback on newest mix? - Climb The Wall

Would like to hear the snare and vocals better during the loudest parts of the choruses--a little more separation. Nice work.

    New Song called CROSSEYED

Listening to the updated mix. Not bad. The arrangement and chord progression are very poppy. At first I thought the bass might be a little boomy in the first verse, but then listened again and I don't think so. Maybe one bass note sticks out a hair @ around 0:32-0:33. As mentioned by someone...

    New track for a friend

Cool progression! Almost jazzy. Maybe has a "Blur" vibe (including the vocals). Great arrangement! Really digging the track. Great vocals, too. When the drums come in for the chorus, maybe the *only* thing missing is a big FAT kick drum. To my ears it sounds almost missing. Also hearing alot...

    New track - "Daydream"

Digging it. The relative levels are great. Maybe just a few tweaks necessary... a little more vocal sweetening (minor tweaks to timing, tiny shelf EQ boost on vocal highs). Maybe consider a small reverb send as track glue and/or mix buss compression (the smallest amount). Really this is just...

    Drunk Driver

Not bad. I do hear some low mid/upper lows building up between bass and snare that cause the bass to have less definition. The vocs could come up a notch or two. Would like a little more high end (sizzle on snare, cymbals)... no more than a db or two though.

    Qucik Ears. Mix advice.

Everything sounds well balanced except for that buildup on bass. More in the 150-200 area; the piano and guitar are throwing stuff into that part of the sound spectrum, too. High-pass on the guitar and piano could help clear up the bass quite a bit, IMO. Want to know the exact frequency of the...

    Working on guitar tones

What kind of a sound are you going for? I listened to the mix "Punk Rock Updated 2" and the guitar sounded fine to me, but I'm not sure what you're looking for. In what I heard, the guitar wasn't up front but it was kind of the meat of the track and not buried. If you have an idea of the type...

New Song - Electronic ballad of sorts?

Am hearing some clipping in some of the instrument tracks (in the intro.... first 20 seconds). Were the levels recorded hot? Maybe you're using some type of distortion plugin? At any rate it seems a little too much to my ears. The muted/detuned piano sound (melody) sounds good. The little...

    Bossa tracks

Forsaken... the guitar in the intro has a big low-mid buildup that is eating up the bass a bit. As suggested by another listener, some subtractive EQ in the low mids of the guitar (check between 200-300 HZ by doing a sweep--just open an EQ, grab a knob and hunt for the offending frequency)...
