    software question

I guess you could manually mix down to two tracks. Just arm two blank tracks to record, one left and one right. I just play my mixes over and over until I have them set just right, then I mix them down...no need to hear it.

    Peavey or Crate?

I've played the Prowler, and while it wasn't my thing, it might be the right thing for you. Definitely play these before you buy one.

    strap button madness

To fill in the screw hole, cram a couple of toothpicks dabbed with wood glue in the hole, then snap them off flush with the body. When this conglomeration is dry, you'll be able to thread the new screw in snugly. I think that's what you were asking? If you're talking about the divet left by...

If you want a good, solid Korean guitar, check out the Hamer imports. They're pretty nice.

    Stainless Steel Strings???

Anyone here care to share their personal experiences with stainless steel strings? I know that they're supposed to sound brighter and that they can speed up saddle and fret wear, but I'm curious to hear what real people have to say about them.

    Midi to Audio

I decided to check the FAQ's on the Cakewalk web site, and yes it can be done within the software. You just arm an empty stereo track, and select the right source. You mute all the tracks that you don't want recorded to audio, and Shazaam...you've got it.

Is there a program that emulates a bass guitar?

Yeah, I just use an octave effect with one of my electrics. It takes some tweaking, but it sounds pretty good. I wouldn't try to bust out any Primus or funk or anything like that, but for rock where the bass is not "in-your-face", the octave works great.

    Practice techniques

When I was just starting out, another guitar player told me two things: 1) The definition of a good guitar player is one that can immediately play whatever is in his head. 2) The difference between a good guitar player and a great guitar player is what's in the head. So, concentrate on playing...

Unlocking the secrets of locking tuners?

Yeah, it never fails to impress. I've been doing it for a long time. I don't know why it isn't more common knowledge than it is. You'll also notice that you break a lot fewer strings than before. Most strings break at the saddle...at least for me. The oil on the saddles reduces friction...

Unlocking the secrets of locking tuners?

With cheap import guitars, the nuts are usually made of plastic, and not cut very well. They're usually cut for light strings also. What usually ends up happening is that the strings bind in the nut slots. So while you're tuning, the strings bind up a bit in the slots, but the guitar sounds...

    Shuffle w/ MIDI?

I've been using CWPA 9.0 for a few months...got it with my Aark DirectPro 24/96. I'm new to this MIDI stuff though. I thought I would try to do some bass lines using MIDI, by just plugging the notes in one by one. The thing is, the tune I was trying to do it in has a shuffle feel. How can I...

    Recording distorted guitars

Well, from what I can tell... 1) A young kid is trying to noodle around and have some fun with the equipment he's got, and he probably can't afford to buy anything new right now. 2) One smart ass thinks that young kids should either spend $5000 on new gear when they're starting out or give it...

    Looking for cool new amp

Hands down the best amp for you is the Rivera R-30. It's a 1x12 30watt amp with EL34's in the power section. It has every great tone. You can get a great clean tone and distortion....unbelievable. It takes some tweaking because the tone controls actually...change the tone! Spend some time...

    Those Aardvark People Are Alright...

Hey Philly, It sounds great, it was easy to set up with zero problems, but I haven't received the Cakewalk yet so I can't comment on that just yet.

    Those Aardvark People Are Alright...

I bought a DirectPro 24/96 in January and it came with this stripped down version of Samplitude Studio...which I don't like. So I went browsing on Aardvark's site last week to find out that they're now bundling the full version of Cakewalk 9 with it. Man, was I pissed! So, I e-mailed them...
