    at2020 & distortion?

My friend has an AT2020. Sounds dark on acoustic guitar. Sounds good for vocals. Doesn't sound that great on a guitar cab, but not too bad either. Why not just get an SM57? Unless you are wanting a mic for both acoustic and "distortion"...

    Favorite tracking sequence

I usually do drums first. But it is easy for me since they are not real drums, but EZDrummer... Then I record rhythm guitar, then bass (if there is one), then any other rhythm sections...then the lead stuff. After that, I might add in any "filler" background stuff like strings or whatever.

    Bit Depth?

You asked a question about a pretty complex topic and got a pretty simple answer... To try and make it more simple: Just record in 24-bit. Some non-recording sound cards don't actually record in 24-bit. But I would personally still use 24-bit in your software as it can be beneficial when...

    from Vista to XP...

You might want to write down the name of your network card and other info in case XP doesn't have a driver for it...this happened to me before...but it is rare since XP has generic drivers also. Kind of hard to search for drivers when your internet isn't working. :D

    Pretty Basic Question.

Back away from the mic on the louder parts. Mic technique (for me) is about as important on guitar as it is on vocals... In the cases where you aren't able to back away from the microphone...then volume automation is probably best. If there are really big changes in volume then I wouldn't even...

    12 Strings

Don't wanna go off-topic but figured I'd ask this here... What kind of strings do you guys use for your 12 strings? I use D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Mediums on my 6-string and right now, I'm not even sure what options are out there for 12-string guitars (about the same? a lot less?). I'm gonna...

    Mastering website plagiarism

Here's a word of advice if you start a website/get a domain name... Type your desired domain name really fast 10 times...look at all the ones with spelling mistakes and register those too...;)

    Define: "stems"

So many different terms for the same thing in recording...gets confusing. I've always just called them "bounced tracks" or submixes or something.

    Mastering website plagiarism

I don't disagree at all...I was just saying what the likely reason for it was (lots of "web designers" who don't know what they are doing just pull images from Google Image search) when there are special websites for royalty free images.

    Mastering website plagiarism

They probably found the image through something like Google Images and made the mistake of thinking that it was royalty free/free for them to use.

    Mastering and CD Programs

WaveLab and CD Architect would make a nice combo. I am not sure how much WaveLab costs, I think it is around the $500 mark though.

    "Locking" or "Freezing" Tracks?

I always just right-click the waveform and go to "Render effects as new take"...there is a choice for mono or stereo. Then I just click the little "Off" word next to the FX button to disable effects. I don't know what stems are.

    First 12-string (audio clip)

Nice sounds Anfontan. :) I've played a few Fender acoustics...the classical one sounded really good and was only $100. (used) I never tried one of their 12-strings though. Playing this one will take awhile to get used to...seems I have to down-pick most stuff to get both strings to...

    "crowd" sound effects?

I've been using freesound.org for awhile now...if you go there and search for "concert crowd" you will get some results.

    12 Strings

Maton 6 strings sound as good, or better to me than a good Martin, and I love Martins. I can only imagine how good one of their 12-strings sound. When I bought mine, I just tried all of them in the shop. One of the least expensive ones ended up sounding the best to me. I tried the Seagull's...

    Johny Cash accoustic guitar sound

My personal opinion is that if your guitar sounds nothing like his, you won't get his sound. Guitar/playing style will make the biggest difference. Having the same kind of microphones/setup won't hurt either. I haven't heard a lot of his songs. Can you give an example of which song you are...
