Interesting, im not quite sure i get the 85dB thing tho, being a man of science i'd like to read up the theory behind it :)
I dont have a dB meter, but will look into getting one, cheers
Discharge the cap properly, dont take the risk.
And why are you wanting to put on latex gloves? It doesnt matter if you touch the tubes as they dont get anywhere near that hot. The halogen light thing is because they get so hot that oils from your skin can cause it to heat uneavenly and crack...
Placement isnt a problem, it was just wondering how other people set the volumes.
It's just a small home recording setup based around one of these:
The monitors are on the top shelf, on either side of the computer monitor. They are at ear level, and the distance between the monitors is the...
Ah right, i thought that would be the case.
Cheers.
I didnt think the firepod had anything marking the volumes on the master volume, but i just had a closer look and it goes from -80 to 0 .
I think i'll go with keeping the monitors cranked and controlling with the firepod volume. Maybe not...
Just wondering what the recommended way of setting up some active monitors would be?
Should i leave the volume on both speakers cranked to the full? (+6dB), Leave it at +0db or have it lower than that?
Was thinking having them at either +0db or +6db would make sense, and then just control the...
Hmm, im not needing any more pre's in the immediate future, but i was looking at doing up a DIY preamp at some point. So i may look into those when i've got a bit more time :D Cheers! - Will
Thats pretty sweet!
Think i may do the same, as the more i thought about it, the more i realised i needed to bring XLR output connections from the back to the front aswell. And i think i'll add a couple MIDI ports too :)
Was going to say the problem was i wasnt wanting to dedicate a whole strip to just passing XLR's through.
However, i discovered the Hosa modular patchbays, and that looks like it could be a winner!
Going to have to mod-in my own part a bit, as im wanting to bring the Midi In-Outs to a front...
As of right now i dont have any mics requiring phantom power, but dont worry, i'd make sure it was wired together right :)
I've got a fair bit of experience with wiring bits and bobs like that together, so, should be alright :)
Hey guys,
Possibly a silly question, but ive got a new desk ("fancy" thing with some rack U's on it).
I only have a few rack unit things, so right now its not a problem, but is there any easy way to have a link that connects to a rear input at the front of the rack?
ive got a presonus eureka...
Ive got a Presonus Eureka and M-Audio Tampa. I like them both for different reasons, but prefer the Eureka hands down if i had to pick :)
And the Tampa does use a wall wart style thing for what it matters.
Eureka takes up less space and does more tho ;)
Not really the best thing to try.
A few things tho, the fact it was a 4x12 would give you a a bit more volume, all things being equal, if you dropped it down to a 1x12 cab you'd loose about 6dB volume-wise.
A few good things about the VJ:
1 - Its basic, if your a DIY nut this is an alright...
One thing i've found out quickly about the recording world.
If you tell someone there is a difference (even if there isnt), they will hear it.
(ok, not always applicable, but you get where im going :p )
It looks very similar to one i got recently :
I quite like it, only had a chance to use it recording distorted guitar so far, but sounds much beefier than a dynamic, would probably sound great when used with a dynamic (or condensor) to add a bit more of that high end sparkle
I'd lean towards firewire.
And most of them tend to send each input to a different track in whichever software your using.
If you find a unit you like the look just be sure to check on that specific one :)
Its a desktop PC im using.
I realise you have already disabled it, i was just meaning that the way i got around it was by disabling everything i didnt need. The items that had the worst effect on my firepod were the wireless and other soundcard.
So maybe disabling your other soundcard might...
