What do you look for in monitors?

Na the yorkvilles are awesome. Sounds like the guy doesn't know his shit, or at least he hasn't heard them and he's going by stuff he's heard. Monitors should be accurate and as flat as possible. You probably want a set that don't fatigue your ears so that you can mix for longer periods of...

    Monitors... Which ones?

Shaking walls tend to come from bass. And the 6.5 inch drivers in these units will definatly not do that. i think you might have to step up to something like a Mackie HR824 or Blue Sky system one, or KRK V8 or something with an 8 inch driver, or sub to produce significant bass. M audio bx...

    setting up my studio

a mixer for close micing? Could you please elaborate? Do you mean you need a mixer for multiple preamps, so that you can power multiple mics, for micing multiple parts of a drum kit? The proximity of the mic wouldn't have any effect whether you use a mixer or not... Stand alone preamps would...

    setting up my studio

I have a Roland PC70. It is just a controller, nothing else, just a bunch of non weighted keys used to control midi. I think it's 250 Canadian. You can probably find it for much less, the place i got it was expensive. It works fine. If you want weighted keys you're going to have to pay a...

    setting up my studio

Sound card. Sound blasters don't really cut it. Look into M-Audio stuff, or Echo stuff. If you will record with microphone, you'll need a microphone, and a preamp. Studio projects has some good mics for cheap. SP B1 Large diaphram condensor is about 80 bucks, good for vocals or instruments...

    Monitors... Which ones?

the active reveals are normally more than the yorkvilles i think. Honestly if you can't get the Yorkvilles i'd say check out the reveals. Especialy if they are cheaper.

Heres your lucky day, jump fast...

I tried to PM you but your box is full, this is basically what i was asking. With these mics, are the black ones just as good as the silver ones that everyone is raving about? How everyone is saying they are an incredible mic, blah blah (in a lot of posts lately)? And is 250 per mic a good...

You ship to Canada? How would that work... And even though they aren't matched they'd still sound great for doing stereo recordings wouldn't they? How much would these cost new now a days?

    M-Audio Audiophile or Delta 66 or 44 or 1010?

they're pretty much fricken identicle converter wise, except that the 1010 has the converters in the breakout box, and are supposudly better. Just figure out how many inputs/outputs you need and then buy, no real controversy from within a brand like this. 4in/4out 4in/4out + spdf 8in/8out...

    home stereo speakers

I hear the B&W's are quite flat and could be used for monitoring. Supposudly a very nice brand of speakers.

    Gear on the brain

I think it's boarderline, but as long as you don't start kissing boys you'll probably be ok. Or maybe it means you need to spend more money on gear.
