Doesn't room sound (and tuning) effect how well the drums sound, more so than mics?

Oh, sorry. I'm using the VF160. But, we don't really have a way to bring it to my PC, since we don't want to mix it on the VF160...The only way is to update, then burn a cd full of wav's.

Since we haven't updated since we got the machine, we're all kinda worried what the 2.02 version will do to our old programs? Are they fine, or does updating include formatting the HD as well?

My band bought these three mics for just under $525 CDN. Despite what I've heard about the 1000's, we're all pleasantly surprised. Plus the AT3035 is just excellent for vox and guitar. I HIGHLY recommend these to any bands that are looking for decent mics and aren't willing to spend very much.

We picked up this clip on stand, for $12 CDN that clips on to any boom stand. It's basically just the top arm of any stand that has a clip on the rear end of it. We just slide it almost to the bottom of a stand, and stick it right into the kick drum. Look for one at your local music store.

I'm just starting to look for some decent mics to start recording with, and I already have a pair of AKG CK-80's with GN15 capsules, which I have used for shotgun mics on my dvcam, and I was wondering, would those do for overheads? I don't really have the time to experiment until our planned...

As I don't have our recordings or the machine handy at the moment, I would like to know what the Fostex VF-160 does when you master the tracks? Would it sound better if I were to transfer everything to Sound Forge and master it manually?

Yeah, we have three SM57's in the basement, but I wasn't sure if he sang through that or not. We'll try taping together an SM58 and a 57, see what the results are like.

Does it really make a difference if you use dynamics or condensers for overhead mics? Right now we're using a pair of SM58's, but are contemplating putting our cash together for two AKG C1000's. Just want to know if it's really worth it for a basement recording?
