it sounds like your configuration isn't correct
have you loaded the korg's instrument definitions into cakewalk?
if you haven't, it is assuming any midi input is GENERAL MIDI-
that may be why the sounds are not correct.

also, as bruce said, there are 2 types of cd's, the cd-r is generally accepted, the cd-rw requires a special format player- (computer rom drive only, usually)

i just got my copy of this book, and for someone like myself- (brand new to digital recording) it seems to be very easy to understand and written for beginners yet, by looking ahead i see there are a lot of nifty tricks that will be covered in the later chapters.
