    Not message music

Get Diorama. I just discovered them recently thru this CD and my freind who turned me on to them said they started of strait rock/grunge. Diorama is harmonically rich, and rather orchestral. I've been listening to the lyrics, rather than reading them. I really like the way this guy writes...

    your goals

Hello, Do you all remember we made some top 10 goals for 2005? Wondering how everybody is doing? I've revised mine to some things a bit more abstract. My mother is getting alzheimers and my sisters are being difficult. My revised goals/resolutions are as follows. 1) Not to let my...

    Not message music

hmmm ... well, let me say first that I'm a PinkFloyd/Radiohead/Silverchair kind of girl when it comes to lyrics... so where you are headed may not be my taste. but - it's not a bad idea, and just cause you're not gay doesn't mean you should be forbidden to write about gay stuff anyway...

    what makes a great song

funny - I was just having this conversation with my roomate last night, about melodies. there are too many kinds of music and too many kinds of people to come up with an answer for this. - you could concievably look at a given type of music or genre, take the top songs of a given period and...

    New Song, Please comment!

I got a 'try back later' message. soundclick.com is really popular among indie artists for making your stuff available.

    been a while--here's a song

just looking at the lyrics, - I like 'em. Wonder if there's not more? Seems like just for symmetry's sake there's something missing.

Using audio samples in songs, what are the leagalities?

hmm recordings of speeches may be public domain. A freind who uses a lot of samples believes that radio broadcasts can be used without the risk of being sued. Its really hard to find good guidelines on this, especially because we use common law, so its always evolving. I know I'd like...

Does anyone here set songwriting goals. My report card for 2004 & goals for 2005

yep, & a big part of that is the idea that only teens & early 20's will have spare cash that they will want to spend on ... frippery. like music...

would appreciate some feedback on these lyrics

hmm ... I find that its really hard to pull off lyrics about poems and pens etc. really well. A few people have done it, but if you're not careful it can really fall short. I really like "the road were on will break your back" and "what's to show but empty hands"

has a lot to do with how much money it makes, somehow...

    Feedback on lyrics please!!!!

like a lot of people say, you really can't tell without the musical context, but it looks to me like your really reaching for some important things and getting close. How 'finished' is this for you?

    writing styles

Interesting question ... I'm doing a lot of "back burner" work to improve my songwriting. Do you listen to music much that uses a different approach from yours? (Just my personal curiosity, what kind of images do you tend to use?)

    Please Critique for me!

It sounds like you are writing words first. Most of the time that doesn't work. I know, because that's what I do. You might want to consider expressing feelings just in music. Get used to non-verbal expression and when you go back to writing your stuff may be a lot better

    looking for crits & feedback

hi - thanks for support. I can tell you one thing, no one, absolutely no-one can ever or would ever criticise my stuff as harshly as I do. Its just not possible. Also, people's response's won't alter the way I write. If somebody points out a flaw, I'll take it into account, and it may...

    Confidence in your own stuff...

I think *playing* other people's stuff helps sharpen your own style. I think it helps you get that other stuff out of your system.

    experimental music

You might want to find out about two peices - "Lions are Growing" and "I am sitting in a Room". These are experimental and use the human voice as a starting point. Still, it might be a good way for you to find out more about the vanguard of experimental music

    Confidence in your own stuff...

YES YES YES and more YES. I'm 39 and I'm finally getting to be able to write like a 12 year old. That is, to be exited about the fact that I am writing at all, and considering anything I have done to be progress, a good effort. I have spent the last few weeks trying to figure out how I can...
