    TapeandTape Opportunist thief

I'm really glad I found this thread...I found that auction today and was considering bidding on it! No chance in hell now!

RME Fireface 800 or Mackie Onyx 1200F?

Thanks guys. I'll stick with my original decision to go with the Fireface.

RME Fireface 800 or Mackie Onyx 1200F?

I've been using M-Audio PCI cards (a Delta 66 synced with a Delta 1010LT) for a good while now, and I feel it's time for me to move up. I had been planning to save up for an RME Fireface 800, and then eventually a second one, but today I was looking at the Mackie Onyx 1200F. It doesn't cost...

Just picked up a Tascam ATR-60

It's the 1/2" 8-track version. Got it for $100. I'm not positive that it's in fully functional condition, though--the guy who sold it wasn't into recording and didn't know anything about it. I know that all the lights come on and the motors spin, but that's about it. I'm feeling around among...

Should I go dual- or single-core if my DAW app isn't multithreaded?

Well I guess I won't be building a computer for a little while because it turns out that instead of getting a tax refund this year I owe the bastards money. Oh well, I guess that means by the time I can build it the C2D prices will have dropped.

Should I go dual- or single-core if my DAW app isn't multithreaded?

Thanks guys--in light of what you're saying I think I probably will lean towards a Core 2 Duo-based system. This is the second time I've heard about Reaper in as many days...looks like I'll have to take a look. Too bad I have loads and loads of n-Track sessions. I have been getting fed up...

Should I go dual- or single-core if my DAW app isn't multithreaded?

I'm considering building a new computer, as my current mixing machine is an Athlon 2400-based system that I built in 2005. From what I understand things have changed since I last built a computer, and the Intel Core Duo processors are now the leaders of the pack for audio. I've heard great...

Buying a 2nd pair of condensers: Rode NT5s or Studio Projects C4s?

That sounds familiar...if that's the one that makes it into a tube mic, I have read about it. I doubt I'll bother, although speaking of mic mods I did recently discover the Manning SM57 mod that involves taking out the transformer. It's pretty simple and it really opens up the top and bottom...

Buying a 2nd pair of condensers: Rode NT5s or Studio Projects C4s?

Hmm...I don't know that I'd necessarily want to, as I like them a lot in stock form, but do you know of any nice mods for them? If it's something that I can do without screwing it up too bad and it makes the mic sound better, I'm all for it.

Buying a 2nd pair of condensers: Rode NT5s or Studio Projects C4s?

So maybe I'd be better off spending my cash on a bass at the moment--I don't currently own my own bass and I kind of need one--rather than a pair of mics that wouldn't be that much of an improvement over what I already have. That sounds reasonable. I'd hate to just throw money at basically...

Buying a 2nd pair of condensers: Rode NT5s or Studio Projects C4s?

Brother, you don't know just how broke I am. edit: I didn't realize you were a Chitowner. I am too, these days. Logan Square reprazent!

Buying a 2nd pair of condensers: Rode NT5s or Studio Projects C4s?

Hehe, I remember that. Jordokid's one cool cat--I haven't heard from him in a while. Unfortunately, since I don't have any actual money, I'm restricted to buying mics that are available on www.zzounds.com/a--2676837 (I work for them and I have some earned credit that I can only spend here at...

Buying a 2nd pair of condensers: Rode NT5s or Studio Projects C4s?

I have had a pair of MXL 603s as my main small-diaphragm condensers for years now, and I think it's time to get something different for variety. A pair of either the NT5s or the C4s is pretty much the same price through my work, so I want to make a smart decision here. I hear that the NT5s are...

    Mxl V69 for female vocals?

I just replaced the stock tube in my V69 with a NOS Mullard 12AT7. It seems to have made the frequency response more balanced and smoothed out the high end. It changes the mic in an interesting way.

CAD M179 vs Studio Projects B3

Ah hell. Oh well, that's not why I bought the mic anyway.

    LOUD guitars and SM 57/58

The only possible way to get the sound of a cranked Hiwatt is to crank a Hiwatt, unfortunately. Turning it down makes it sound different.

CAD M179 vs Studio Projects B3

I'm pretty sure I read a review of the M179 saying that it was made in Ohio with an American capsule.

CAD M179 vs Studio Projects B3

I think the CAD mic is going to have a less exaggerated high end than the SP mic, and between those I'd pretty much automatically pick the CAD. I have the M-37, which is the Musician's Friend version of the M-177 (which is the cardioid-only version of the M-179). It's a really versatile mic...

    AT4040 Vs CAD M179

I have the M-37, which is the Musician's Friend version of the M177, which is the cardioid-only version of the M179. Great mic--I got it on sale for $100 and it was definitely one of my wiser purchases. Usable for pretty much anything, but very neutral-sounding and not too flattering. When I...
