Overdriving the hell out of my 388

Yeah, oh well. You guys are probably right. If there's a history of the inputs being destroyed from this, I probably shouldn't try it. Big thanks for the responses fellas.

    New Lamb of God

First time I heard them, I thought they were a little bit too derivative of certain other bands, but they grew on me definately. I'll definately be checkin out the new one. (Even though I'm still most anxiously awaiting Meshuggah's next endeavor)

Overdriving the hell out of my 388

I'm not in a position to actually do the experiment at this time, but I was wondering...does anyone have any experience overloading the shit out of the preamps on a Tascam 388? I'm looking to make a few recordings that are intentionally mid to lo-fi and kind of blown out sounding for a lack of...

Could you use a guitar pedalboard for vocals?

You absolutely can. One thing to consider though...I don't know if you're planning on using this in a live situation or not, but remember if you are, you're taking control out of whomever is mixing the show. May effect your gain before feedback as well if you're making changes during songs.

    As if I were blind

So true, so true. We hear so much with our eyes. Improving your concentration of listening is crucial. When at home, depending on what it is, I even try to do my casual listening with closed eyes. Even with records I've heard millions of times. For instance, I realized a few months back...

When you record enable a track, you need to select what the input will be on that specific track. It'll give you options to record stereo or mono based on your inputs.

Free plug for new bands that don't suck

After all my whining about modern rock music and just how boring it is, I've finally found a handful of new bands that I happen to really really like a lot. Most lean more to the metal side, but they're all fantastic. Torche Mouth of the Architect Ufomammut Weedeater 400 Blows Young Widows...

A Formal ART Tube MP MOD????

I'm far from the modmaster, but I switched out the 12AX7 in favor of a 12AU7 and seemed to notice an improvement.

I know it's not nice to poke fun but...

Hip Hop killed the rock and roll star sure, but only on MTV, top 40, and in the majority of thirteen year old girl's cd players. Not a one of them bears any real importance whatsoever. After all, Hendrix had to open for the Monkees on many a night. There's plenty of rock in the world, it just...

    New Helmet

It's kind of unrelated, but I highly recommend a band called Torche. To me, they kinda sound like what Helmet should be doing these days. http://www.myspace.com/torche

    New Helmet

Yeah, it doesn't quite have the fire of those first two, but it just simply rocks. Best song on the LP is called 'Brand New'. It's definately the best thing since Betty by a long shot.

    New Helmet

Yeah, they're just sorta reliving 1992, and it's not as good as the first two LP's, but this new record is kicking my ass. They used the same engineer and tape machine as Meantime, so it's sounds damn similar. Anyone else feelin this thing?

I know it's not nice to poke fun but...

Sincere or not, it's more entertaining than virtually every currently popular band in the world. That, and it was pure brillance when ol' Eddie Van Halen realizes halfway through the solo that it might be wise to step closer into the camera's view so we can all get a better look at that smokin...

Anyone have a technique for coming up with solos?

I'll frequently lay down a loop of a mildly random sounding chord progression, and then use the writing of the solo to tie the progression's changes together.

    acid 6

Double check what file that Acid is looking in for the VST's. Also, make sure you refresh the vst list in Acid anytime you install more otherwise, Acid's not gonna see the new ones. I believe all this stuff is in the preferences window under 'vst effects' and 'vst instruments'.

    is this not absurd?

That does it. I'm gonna listen to Back in Black on my boombox.
