    Recording heavy distorted guitars.

i appreciate the advice about the tuner... i am going to have an A/B selector that would switch between the tuner and my real setup. also directly from the mixer to the amp? yes, and if i want sound going directly to the board, i will use the control room outs on my mixer. the amp is more or...

ohhhh that's cool. i see what you mean

    clean signal layered over distortion

okay... so then what about using something like a Morley ABY selector? that splits the signal from one unbalanced 1/4", into two unbalanced 1/4" jacks. or what about using the effects send and return on my mixer? then i could fade in the distortion with the fx level knob. that technically...

    clean signal layered over distortion

but if you move the volume pedal with your foot... doesnt it change the volume of both inputs at the same time... so it's not like you could blend one input more than the other with your foot. if you push forward, it makes both louder... if you pull back on the pedal, it makes both quieter

    clean signal layered over distortion

what do u mean... yes there is two inputs... but there is also two outputs... you still have to combine them into one signal at one point. my mixer does that. the stereo volume pedal is just for controlling the volume of 2 different signals at once. but it doesnt combine them. what i...

    Whats your rig look like?

yah it is... ill take a picture once i finish building my pedal box. i have one signal going to my effects unit, then out to a small mixer... and one signal (clean) going straight to the small mixer. this way i can have a high gain distortion, and mix in a little bit of my clean signal for...

    clean signal layered over distortion

haha... i just looked into the sparkle drive. i basically just recreated that idea. your right. but i do have a little more freedom in how the distortion sounds (as my pedal simulates several distortion stomp boxes), and i can also set different EQ settings for each channel (distortion...

    clean signal layered over distortion

yah that makes sense (the small timing imperfections and tonal differences make the fatter sound). im gonna play around with some recording tonight after i hook this up.

    clean signal layered over distortion

fair enough... just an idea. the purpose would be to still get just as much gain for screaming leads... but keep the tone. when you turn down the gain to the point that it sounds sort of clean, your losing that screaming gain kind of sound, and it doesnt sound as aggressive. i know people...

    clean signal layered over distortion

i got this idea off of this board in the "recordiing techniques" section. for recording heavily distorted guitar, mixing a separate clean signal in with the distorted one will help give it tone, and bring out the sound of each note... SO i made a diagram of a possible guitar setup. i used a...

    Recording heavy distorted guitars.

this makes perect sense to me... mixing the clean signal in with the distorted one to give it tone... SO i made a diagram of a possible guitar setup. i used a D.I. box before my distortion effects and sent both the distorted signal and the clean signal to a mini mixer board. then out from...

    bass kick and boom

ah hahaha yah i will definately use my kick as the base of this sound (no pun intended, bass, base). but i can make that pounding ringing sound with my bass drum. layering an 808 kick overtop might sound excellent.

    Recording guitar+bass direct (BRMC)

i agree... the amp plays a huge part in the sound of a guitar. if u have a decent sounding amp, mic it. i dont even like the output signal out of the amp... its still nothing like the sound of the speaker

    bass kick and boom

hahaha, thats awsome. so i guess if i want to make girlies dizzy, ill still with the 808 kick lol. anyways, ill see how it works out when i get a chance to play around with them.

    bass kick and boom

thanks, but the only problem is that i would only be getting that sound at 128 or 192 kbps. that would be not great for recording quality, correct? is there anywhere i could find a better quality sample of a kick like that? *EDIT - actually now that i compare the sound of the bass drum on...

    bass kick and boom

hey eeldip... i downloaded a bunch of 808 samples... im gonna try them and see how they are. i dont like the sound of any of them, but the bass drum sounds might work. ill let you know how it works out. thanks
