Mastering tips for not pro, but not newb level recording engineer

If anyone has the time, this would help me ALOT! I need someone to run through how they master a song. I obviously don't need extreme detail, but how would you say you master a track. I want to know things about levels, obviously, and coloration(bass, mid, treb...) and such like that...

    drums in the mix

no offense to the newbs and amies, but i want some advice from the pros here... how do all of you pros attempt to acheive great drums sounds IN THE MIX. Making sure it sounds bright enough, has enough attack and lows, and just overall doesn't sound muddled in the mix. Clearly eq and...

    compression/eq (effects chain order)

my question essentially is, in which order do you "generally" place your dynamics section and eq in? dynamics first, then eq? ( or vice versa? ) I have heard different things from different people, and i normaly do compression first then eq. I believe that works best.... haha. Recently what...

pro audio 9 help...(moving effects from one song to another)

well obviously i am not going to use the same exact effects on each one... i mean that is a given, isn't it? ha. I just didn't want to have to put all of my effects on 8 song manually. Then i was going to mix it from there... Trust me... if you heard these drum tracks you would be amazed...

    Does this sound decent??

pretty well done well i like the sounds you got for the kick/snare. Very good in my opinion. Toms sound pretty damn good too actually. But i'm not sure if i like all the cymbals. I just wish there was more of a seperation between them. Otherwise everything else sounds pretty good. Drummer...

well... alright in cake walk pro audio 9 whenever you set level by use of the console view it never saves for some reason for me either... so dont' use faders, just use the volume controls... try that out.

    some eq/overall drum questions.....

alright, i have been doing the whole home recording thing for a little while now... ya know whatever, anyway, i'm starting to find that my drum tracks tend to sound odd in the area of the kick drum/snare. They sound almost roomy i guess... But anyway i guess maybe this is more of a room...

can i use replacement sounds with cakewalk pro audio 9?

I just need to know if i can use replacement sounds in cakewalk pro audio 9 or not, or what program i can get to use them. What i mean by replacements is that i will gate the drum and i will be replacing the sound of the old with a pre-recorded sound. So its like triggers sorta... whatever. I...

    Solved grohl or disturbs drummer

alright... well i can't say that i agree with this all the way... Yes alot of sounds are replaced, but not always triggered... I guess in a way it is still triggering... but your not using triggers, just gates and other software for replacing... but whatever that is a fine line, anyway, what...

    Drum mic set up

sounds like a plan! i would agree with those mic choices for i have done the same and really liked it. Just make sure that you have your drums tuned very well and that they sound very good in the room first. Then go ahead and mic it up and see what you get. I really like the c3000 for my...

    "overhead"

well... have you considered bouncing tracks?? Then you could just record the snare and just mix the drums to one track then record some other parts later. Hell, you could record the drums first and get a couple more mics and you have 8 tracks to do it in, so use them then mix the drums, then...

    Best Mixing Software

nuendo v2 try nuendo v2 out, its pretty nice i think. The vst mixer is a great tool and i like how the effects are layed out and stuff. Its very easy. And also you can do 5.1 mixes with version 2(v2) if you into that kinda thing.
