One mic for bluegrass recording AT3035 ?

Would an AT3035 be a good choice for a $200 mic to record a five piece bluegrass group? I'm not trying to come up with a polished product, just a decent recording of practice sessions. I have an SM57, Rode NT-3, and Radio Shack 58 copy (got it with a used amp, it sounds pretty good!) but I'm...

    What guitar/amp do you have?

I have other stuff but right now I'm mostly using: MIM Strat (neck and middlle Tallboys, stock bridge pup) and a stock late SF Princeton Reverb and it's pleasing the bejabbers out of me. This strat is really sweet, great feeling neck. (I've owned nice USA strats before). $240 used from...

Home Studio 2004XL and MIDI Pt. 2

Your welcome, glad it's working. One of those drum maps should coincide with your 660 without changing anything, I'm pretty sure.

Home Studio 2004XL and MIDI Pt. 2

I'm outta here for the night, try selecting drum map>GM-basic kit from the OUT dropdown menu. If your midi options (Options>Midi Devices) are set up right (your soundcard midi ins and outs highlighted), you should be able to write in piano roll and it will midi out to your drum machine which...

On the midi track you created, what does the "Out" box say?

Home Studio 2004XL and MIDI Pt. 2

Let me see if I understand what you are trying to do. Are you trying to record your drum machine's pattern onto HS so you can alter the notes with HS? Or, are you writing the pattern with HS and just trying to use the drum machine as a sound module?

Home Studio 2004XL and MIDI Pt. 2

When you created the track, did you use (from the menu at the top) Insert>Midi Track? (Or maybe it's Track>Insert midi track, I'm not at home)

    Which stomp boxes?

My Alesis 3630 compressor/gate helped out a lot, although I wouldn't want it for the final solution, it colors the tone too much in bypass. Thanks for all the suggestions, I've been shopping the internet, listening to a ton of sound samples, including multi boxes like PX4 and J-station. I wish I...

    Which stomp boxes?

Mr. Donkeystyle: You have point there but I can't sneak a Les Paul past the wife right now. I just need to get as close as possible with this axe. Space: I was planning on adding my Alesis 3630 to the chain tonight and see what happens. If it's compression that I need, what would be a good...

    Which stomp boxes?

I'm looking for neverending sustain, and really smooth distortion. I play a Strat through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe at very, very low volume. I borrowed a Big Black Russian Mufff and a Vintage Rat yesterday, I think the Muff may be closer than the Rat, but I still feel like there's something...

    Guess So - Reconsidered

Hey Erik: Is that you playing the guitar solo? If so, can you tell me what effects boxes you're playing through? I gave a listen to Guess So again. I would still like to hear it without vocal overdubbing, just a straight pristine recording with maybe a hint of reverb, you have a good voice...

    Guess So - Reconsidered

Great voice. There's something about the treatment of the vocal that bothered me, though, sounds kind of like it was doubled and I would like to hear it as unprocessed as possible. I found the steady ride cymbal distracting, I think it would be nice if it was broken up a bit, maybe an extra...

    Cheap verb....

I was busy editing my post when Richard posted. I would listen to him way more than me, if I were you. I am planning on getting the TC Electronics MP300. By all reviews I've read, it's pretty nice, but I just don't see them much under $200 on Ebay yet.

    Cheap verb....

I think you were looking at the MPX-110. You don't have to use the midi functions, it would work for your application. I believe it is an updated version of the MPX-100 which you can buy on Ebay for around $100. UPDATE: I just looked at some HC reviews of the MPX and I'm having second...

    Cheap verb....

If I were in your position I would consider a used Lexicon instead, a few different models sell on Ebay close to your price range pretty regularly. I haven't heard the ART FX, though.

Does anybody know of a good amp tech near Portland, Oregon? I just picked up a Princeton Reverb and I'd like to have it checked out. Thanks, Bill

I was thinking that the Boss would let you assign the OUT as THRU, as I have read HC reviews in that said it had THRU capability. If that's not the case, pardone moi and nevermind.
