All my tracks use the same instrument

I use Cakewalk ProAudio not Sonar, but it should be similar. Set your source to "Midi Omni" this is the INPUT to the track. Next set the "midi channel" to something. Create a template of say 16 tracks and set each track's midi channel from 1-16. Probably the most important thing missing is an...

    500 D/L's per month

"D/l a month don't really mean shit.." Sure it does, the more people coming to his site or listening to his music, the more reason to offer a cd. :)

    warehouse music is BANKTRUPT

Here's the problem, most cd's only have 1-2 songs that we really like, so if they can download those tunes for free, no motivation to go buy anthing. It IS hurting sales BIG time! The solution, sell a cd with 2-3 good songs on it, for around $4.95, I'm sure we all would buy it. :)

    Instrument variety on a CD.

Cy, Thanks for your tips, but they went straight over my head. Sorry... HapiCmpur, Thanks for the comments. Yes, that does make sense. I would like to send my finished cd out to a few places, and would just add confusion if it sounded like 14 different artists. :)

Overdubbing live drums - after drum machine

Tips: I will quantinize my drum machine parts so they are dead on, and then when the tune is done I will again do this, but add some % of randomness this time (Cakewalk allows this) to the whole drum mix. This causes ever so slightly timing "mistakes" which really makes it sound more human...

Record some FAT Tool Like Bass notes for me!

Because I don't have the signal path to get a kick ass heavy picked rock bass sound! Plus, I'd rather spend that money on a real bass player who could tweak the sound for me, someone who know his craft! Any takers? Reply via email if interested. (dmunsie@REMOVEyahoo.com)

    Instrument variety on a CD.

"As a commercial matter, I suspect there's a reason why most major label CDs do sound like "one band" is playing all the songs (with relatively minor exceptions)." Interesting, I do agree that most commercial efforts seem to centralize around a "sound" for that particular cd. My problem is, I...

    Instrument variety on a CD.

Quick question, when making a cd with 12-14 songs, do you think all of the songs should sound as if they came from the same collection of instruments or do you think it's ok to experiment and use different instruments/sound on each track? Thanks.

Master this short demo for me. (before and after example)

I had to remove the file due to bandwidth use! ERR!!!! I'm trying to get more bandwidth so I can put other files up as well. Thanks for all the feedback, and yes this forum does indeed rock! By the way, I thought mastering was after you create a mixdown as I have done. And THEN you add stuff...

Record some FAT Tool Like Bass notes for me!

Who said they had to be free? I'm willing to pay someone for their time. Now c'mon, there has to be a bass player willing to do this for me. I don't want the free samples on the internet, besides you can never tell where they came from, if they're legal or not. We're talking probably a few...

Need help on starting my life.

"But i think that i will ask, a friend of myne, who ons a studio, to start letting me help him out in the studio, doing things, like sweeping, running arens, filling up the coffie pots and hopfuly, one day, help him run the board." In the mean time you'll probably make less money than working...

Master this short demo for me. (before and after example)

Hey crosstudio, That mix sounded good! Thanks for doing it and more importantly explaining what you did as well. :) Looks like I'll end up leaving the mastering on important projects up to the experts. :)

Need help on starting my life.

"Education is important...a degree is not." I just wanted to add by saying this. Don't get suckered into thinking a college education/degree is not important. Get as many degrees as you can. I'm sure alot of us (me) old farts around here regret not sticking with college and getting a degree...

    Vocal Booth

I'm still very green to all this, so someone else can explain the frequency/tech talk. :) For my vocals, this has REALLY made the vocals sound similar to other pro-recorded cds. It basically eliminated ALL natural reverb, the sound doesn't bounce around anymore. It allows me to record 100% dry...

    Vocal Booth

I went to Lowes (like a Home Depot store) and told the guy there I wanted to make a booth out of pvc piping. He recommended 3/4 size. I told him 4 legs, and a square at the top and bottom. Total cost for 7ft high, by 3 1/2ft wide booth was about $25.00. I put it together in less than 5 minutes...

Master this short demo for me. (before and after example)

Hi Camn! Thanks for the mastering! Again, not much difference in the before and after, hmmm... still doesn't have that hot, thumping sound I was hoping for. Perhaps I need to do this in the mix down and not in the mastering? I thought your mastering did sound good though. Thanks for doing it. :)
