Whats wrong with my set up?

First I need to get a new pair of headphones. The ones I currently have cant be plugged in to my interface. I was on a low budget, and anything that wasnt something I needed to buy I didnt. I had a decent pair of headphones so I didnt buy any.

Whats wrong with my set up?

Im on an extremely low budget. Ive pretty much exhausted it at this point. If I had it my way I would have gone with a 32-bit Windows 7 Laptop. Or a Mac. But this computer was given to me, so I had to build around it. Vista 64, to put it lightly, is probably the worst recording OS you could...

Whats wrong with my set up?

It is probably a driver issue. It has to do with the internal soundcard. I think its WaveRT based. On windows vista 64, sonar has problems with WaveRT drivers apparently. This seems to make sense for two reasons. First, there are no problems when using Audacity with the same...

Whats wrong with my set up?

I dont think its motorboating then. It happens regardless of phantom power. Its more of a crackling, which I guess is a good way to put it. If I recorded one track, then turned it in to an MP3, it would probably sound exactly how I recorded it, no issues.

Whats wrong with my set up?

The problem with the audio happens with the echo, and with playback. I dont think its stuttering, or dropouts. Its more like a lot of static/fuzz. The sound is never actually broken up, it just has this kind of beep or something. I think the term might be motorboating?

Whats wrong with my set up?

I could run my headphones through the interface, instead of the computer. Do you think that will make the difference? and if not. Should I upgrade the soundcard?

Whats wrong with my set up?

I was reading the Readme file and found this "As of Vista SP1, WaveRT drivers for onboard audio devices do not work in Vista X64 while running the 32 bit version of SONAR. This is due to a problem with WOW64 in Windows Vista X64 that has been reported to Microsoft. This issue has been addressed...

Whats wrong with my set up?

Scratch that. After I finished playing my electric through the Interface, which did work perfectly fine, I posted this and was away from my computer for awhile. I came back and decided that since my software was working id try recording a track on my Rode. Well the minute I get on I start...

Whats wrong with my set up?

Well, as far as I can see down the road. Ive fixed the issue. The problem was more or less the sound card. I went in to the control panel and proceeded to snoop around in the sound part. I looked in to my sound cards set up, and wouldnt you know it, the stupid thing is set up the exact opposite...

Whats wrong with my set up?

Well I just used my electric guitar through my interface and I have the same issue with the guitar that I do with the mics. I can say for sure though, that the problem has worsened with the things going through the interface as opposed to the direct USB cable. Again though, with Audacity...

Whats wrong with my set up?

My songs will most likely never exceed 10 tracks. I can always move some of my finished work on to a USB drive. So would upgrading the drive cause me to have to put software back on the computer, or lose any of my files?

Whats wrong with my set up?

So, is this something I can upgrade? Im not really that computer savvy, so is there a way I could somehow put an SSD drive in this laptop, internally or externally? and I think im going to get more RAM regardless.

Whats wrong with my set up?

Just to see what would happen, I hopped over to audacity with the rode going through the USB interface. Even through audacity the mic sounded absolutely beautiful. So I can rule out that its the mic/cables/interface. Im starting to have a feeling that its just Sonar itself giving me issues...

Whats wrong with my set up?

This computer has been loaded down with junk before I started using it for recording. Im going to pretty much wipe it clean, and do what shadow_7 has recommended. Even after I get everything off of it that needs to be off, and all the things that need to be turned off, off. Im going to take it...

You mentioned network traffic. I live in a condo, and when I look at available connections, I can pick up on 4 different peoples wireless modems? Could being so close to other modems be screwing with my network?
