Do you always gate your kick mic channel?

Think of it this way: Why worry about the bleed on the kit? Do you hear a drum kit with each shell and cymbal isolated? You hear it mixed together as well as reacting to the environment in which you would be standing. Therefore when micing drums I find it essential to record them in a dedicated...

Do you always gate your kick mic channel?

When I've gotten the gate dialed in perfectly, along with some EQ on the low end, it does absolute wonders for the punch and clarity. I usually just look at gates like a DI box for microphones. You want to narrow it down until its almost as if you're getting strictly the source and nothing else...

    Bouncing/Mastering with Cassette?

So, the belt was straight up goop. Stuck to the flywheel. Just needs a cleaning, oiling, and a belt replacement. EDIT: Cost of the deck was $25. Repair costs are going to be more than that probably. I hate when that happens.

Beck, Its 4/20 and I'm a bit foggy. Please use layman's terms. ;)

    Bouncing/Mastering with Cassette?

Makes sense. Sad news though. It seems the pinch roller in the CX-310 is not working. Tried two tapes with no luck. I was able to move the roller myself, but its not functioning at all.

    Bouncing/Mastering with Cassette?

My heart is currently set on either a 22-2 or a 3300SX 2T, leaning towards the 3300 for the flavor only, but definitely getting the 22-2 if I cant find a working 3300, as I do like the sound on that as well. Also, I have no interest in preserving my original tracks at the moment, so an internal...

    Bouncing/Mastering with Cassette?

My car has a cassette player in it, and once I can play it while I'm driving I'm pretty much satisfied. Also, many of the people in my area (its an artsy-fartsy kind of place) would be more impressed with me handing out cassettes made from an in-home analog studio than anything else except vinyl...

    Bouncing/Mastering with Cassette?

Hey guys, I've been weighing up how soon I wanted to incorporate a 2-Track Reel to Reel in to my chain for mastering. In the meantime I have acquired an old TEAC CX-310 Cassette deck (Circa 1981?) and figured I could get some ideas on it just playing guitar and singing before I seriously record...

Can Clicks kill the life in a recording ?

What I do is this... I am a singer-songwriter who generally writes and performs every part except drums. When I use a click and the drummer comes in after to play over my part, it doesn't work. If he memorizes the song and lays down the drum track, then I play over, it doesn't work. Doing it in...

    US Recording Media: Seriously? LOL

There's this thing called "search thread". It should help you find that relatively fast. :thumbs up:

    US Recording Media: Seriously? LOL

No. I believe it was another 388 owner. A new owner who was putting some serious work in to their machine. I don't have a personal problem with the guy, or you for that matter. But good threads were getting pushed to the bottom because of it. I think its great to have specific problems in plain...

    US Recording Media: Seriously? LOL

Id also appreciate If the mods could condense some of the 388 threads in to one. I mean they allowed someone to make about 6-7 threads for each problem with his one machine...

Is US Recording Media doing OK?

I did not call RMGI directly. I called a Full Compass rep who got in contact with RMGI. A tape shipment was delayed and I was not happy to say the least. But if in fact you do want to contact RMGI here is their info: RMGI North America PO Box 340 New Buffalo, MI 49117 Phone: 269-469-2463...

Is US Recording Media doing OK?

Can you please not spread pure high octane bullshit on the forums? I personally highly doubt you work for US Recording Media. I work in logistics for a very prominent music company that will not be named (you're probably violating company policy by discussing USRM on here FYI) and deal with...

Buyer says tape deck doesn't work, sounds like Sticky Shed

Exactly. Cant knock anyone for doing what they need to do. If I ever upgrade or stop using my machine, I think I might start searching for an apprentice of sorts. Someone who's shown aptitude, and dedication. Ill teach them to do everything, then pass the machine/board on to them, on the...

Buyer says tape deck doesn't work, sounds like Sticky Shed

I mean if this guy somehow missed the entire sticky-shed issue in his time away from recording on tape machines, then for all we know he is just angry as all hell, hitting buttons, and making it worse. That's what would freak me out. That's why I said he no longer has a case with...

Buyer says tape deck doesn't work, sounds like Sticky Shed

As far as I can see, you owe this man nothing. Even at the company I work for, he would be getting no special treatment. He bought non-garunteed used merchandise that was in working order when sold and shipped, knowingly. He then took it home, possibly destroyed it from lack of knowledge, and is...

Buyer says tape deck doesn't work, sounds like Sticky Shed

Almost makes me think the best thing to do is to sell to people within the "analog community" or forum members only. Seems like if you try to sell it to someone with no experience on either tape machines OR ebay/paypal, that you're basically sending your machine to a graveyard. They aren't...

Buyer says tape deck doesn't work, sounds like Sticky Shed

I do all around logistics work (Shipping/Receiving/Q&A) and also own a Tascam 80-8 that I bought through ebay. It was shipped in its original box, with some packing in it, encased in the original molded foam. I rate that at a 6/10 in terms of how well it was packed, and it showed up from Reno (I...
