??? on recording with my soundblaster soundcard

I record vocals and electric guitar. Sometimes I do bass plugged right into the mixer, but most of the time it's fake bass. The drums are fake as well. I haven't had any real noticeable problems relating to the room as far as an extreme effect on the recorded sound. Honestly if I had the...

How did you learn to sing?

I'm pretty much the same as the OP...almost exactly. I trained myself out of necessity because my band needed a singer. A lot of people don't like the actual tone of my voice, but I can hit notes well. I think a lot of my dissatisfaction with my voice stems from bad technique. I can sing...

    what is your recording set-up?

Pretty crappy. Yamaha MG16/4 mixer MilesAudio MA-8 Mic Shure PG48 Mic Anything I record runs into my Sound Blaster Audigy and I mix on headphones and computer speakers. :p My computer specs are also not the greatest. It's just a budget PC I built myself for about $300 (some stuff I took...

??? on recording with my soundblaster soundcard

Not to hi jack the thread, but I'm trying to figure out where I should start with the upgrades now that I've got a better handle on mixing. Like the OP, I am recording with a Sound Blaster. I am also mixing on headphones/computer speaks (big no-no...I know). I record in an untreated room using...

a few songs, new to the board

From your description I expected punk-inspired stuff. I stand corrected. I think it sounds really good, but I'm just listening on some computer speakers right now. I like the vocals a lot.

This mix sounds kinda dry...but maybe it's just me. Fresh ears?

Ok so you think they're sitting in too tight with the cymbals frequency wise? It could be due to my use of an exciter on the main bus to push the highs out a bit more. My mixes tend to sound a little dark on their own. Thanks for listening BTW.

This mix sounds kinda dry...but maybe it's just me. Fresh ears?

I'm thinking once I record the vocals it will liven things up a bit more...especially in the intro. I want to see what everyone else thinks. Link here. I'm trying to experiment more with drum sounds and things, but I'm a little limited as I'm using EZ Drummer. The kick seems to be a little...

Have you made the switch? (desktop->laptop, pc->mac)

I guess I didn't use the right word. The main idea is I don't want other people poking around inside my computer at all. I was using "fixing" in the sense of checking out the part for myself and replacing it myself, so I didn't use the right word at all. Me = idiot. I just don't like relying...

Have you made the switch? (desktop->laptop, pc->mac)

I would rather fix it myself than have some inept waste of life Geek Squad member touch my computer. I know an LCD screen isn't really something I can just fix really, but I'm just talking about general things. I have tried Macs in the past...just not my thing I guess. I'm a huge PC nerd and...

So I'm having guitar problems...not sure what to do.

So with winter here in Michigan, and the state's crazy ass weather, I have a begun to experience tuning problems. The strings are new, and I have checked the innotation. Now last time I checked it, every note I checked below the 12th fret was pretty dead on, but when I started getting to the...

    inconsolable

I LOVE the way that acoustic sounds. Very clean...almost metallic. The slide is also a very nice touch. Some of the parts sound off timing-wise as mwthompson said. I think adding some ambient background stuff would add depth to the song without necessarily adding vocals or anything too up...

Done all I can on my own with this one since I'm still a noob.

Haha awesome...thank you. As far as the strings....perhaps it's my instrument choice? I'm using East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra. I can't really do better than that since I don't have a real orchestra at my disposal. Can you give me a "time stamp" on what part you think sounds...

Done all I can on my own with this one since I'm still a noob.

Ok, I messed with some levels here and there on the lead parts...just nit-picky stuff. I tried to fix most of the semblance problems, but I couldn't do anything with the main vocal part without it sounding fake. I did manage to lessen it on the whisper/growl tracks though...just a little. As...

Done all I can on my own with this one since I'm still a noob.

Thank you for the kind words. I put some compression on the toms and kick to get them a little thicker sounding. That seemed to help a lot. I'll post another clip once I fix the other problems mentioned in here so far. I agree on the thinness definitely. I'll try to take some of the highs...

Done all I can on my own with this one since I'm still a noob.

Okay, this one probably won't be to everyone's taste since it's kind of weird, and has some growling in it and such. I've done the best I can with it, and I want to see what the people here think. I got some useful responses on the other mix I posted a while ago, so I'm expecting more of the...
