How to mic djembe and tambourine pedal combo?

OK, maybe I will get lucky with my space. I ordered a pair of Samson CO2s to see if I can get proof of concept.

How to mic djembe and tambourine pedal combo?

Thanks again. Presuming I don't get extremely lucky and find my untreated space is miraculously decent, what do you think about recording outdoors to remove the room? I have ocean way studios, so I was thinking about trying it out on audio recorded outdoors. Do you think that has potential...

How to mic djembe and tambourine pedal combo?

Thanks. I'm using an Apollo twin, so I only have two audio inputs. I suppose if I'm micing the top and bottom of the djembe, and using a third mic on the tambourine, then I will need to run the mics of the djembe through a mixer that has a digital optical output so I can use the Apollo Twin's...

How to mic djembe and tambourine pedal combo?

I just got a djembe and kick tambourine and I'd like to learn how to mic this combo. I've always used an ekit or keyboard for percussion, so I have no background in using mics with acoustic percussion. Any suggestions?

    I has a apollo twin duo ...

OK, so I finally got everything finished, and in the process, I bought the upgrade for 3 plugins of my choice. What should I get? I figure I might want the Lexicon reverbs and some kind of compressor. I'm not sure which compressor though. And what should my third plugin be? Something for...

    I has a apollo twin duo ...

Yeah, I plan to get Logic. I just noticed it is only $200 on the app store. I remember when it was $800, on the shelf.

    I has a apollo twin duo ...

Thanks for the info. I'm one of those obnoxious people who has more money than time, so I'm not really concerned about the money. And I've had a lot of regrets from going cheap based on research into what is the best "bang for the buck." My best recording experience was when I first started...

    I has a apollo twin duo ...

… and I don't know what to do with it. It didn't come with the thunderbolt cable so I can't get started until I buy one. I never heard of this thing until the guy at GC talked me into it after I asked for a "breakout box" for my macbook air. So does this thing work with logic or garage band...

How to take the room out

You might be surprised what you can do with some motown compression, especially if you mic an acoustic cab. I haven't been satisfied with recording direct off an acoustic pickup, but the miced cab can be gold.

How to take the room out

Put a pickup in the guitar. Record direct and/or mic an acoustic amp with a dynamic mic.

Interest waning ... attention wandering ... what was I just saying?

Oh, well. Guess it wasn't important.

    protools 9...is it worth it?

If you are going to get pro tools, get 9. It is the firtst version to allow you to use any interface, instead of locking you into using Avid interfaces. An I hear the compatibility is greatly improved, but can't confirm on personal knowledge. Seriously, I think the main choices now are pro...

Sonar vs Pro Tools vs Cubase

I thought more recent versions of PT support VST. And the FX adapter lets PT versions at least as old as 6 use VSTs. PT9 doesn't require an AVID I/O anymore, either. I just really thought the notorious PT incompatibility issues had mostly disappeared now. Is that not true?

    dbx 286A is causing problems

I'm wondering what level of signal is coming out of that preamp, and what level of signal that cable is prepared to handle. I looked at the manual for that preamp, and it seems the only control you have for padding the output is the output gain control knob on the far right. Do you still get...

    Best hardware compressor for 300-450?

I got the VLA II and returned it in favor of a DBX 166XL. I was using it on bass guitar and wanted a hard knee, but the VLA II only does really soft knee compression. As it ted out, the contour function on the 166xl turned out to be really advantageous for bass, becasue it allows the low end...

How can I stay in tune?

How do threads like this get necronomiconified? As for reading the entire OP and giving any thought to what might actually be needed ... need I say more?

How can I stay in tune?

Get a hardware piece that does autotune. Split your vocal, and run one signal though a delay into the autotune. Listen to both signals as you sing, and use the autotune signal as reference to match you pitch. Record only the signal without the autotune. Win.

    Does This Sound Familiar?

This one? YouTube - Darling Be Home Soon - Lovin' Spoonful Other than having a strummy guitar rhythm part, I don't think it sounds much like it. It's not the same chord progression, much less the same melody. If that's the closest thing people can think of, then I guess mine might be...

    Does This Sound Familiar?

Yeah, I hear it too. I was just getting the idea down, so I could practice it. If I move forward, I'll put a lot more effort into it. I'm curious why you don't consider it a song? I mean, do songs have to have lyrics and be sung? There are lyrics, but I'm just playing the guitar melody in...

    Our EP is dunzo!

Seems like a decent demo now. But the kick and snare are still quite lacking, but its a free demo, so who's gonna complain? In the future, if you can just get those two miced separately and layed in with your overheads, you'd get a significant improvement. Even one track of those two...
