Well I've heard BX8's in five different rooms, only one of which came close to being treated. They sounded pretty similar in all of them.
Like I said, they're going away. I don't care if I mix on the Blue Sky's or on an executive shelf system, I just don't want the monitors three inches from...
By the way this is how my mixes sound, as the monitors were kind of the opposite.
I'd like to get some bass traps built next year if I'm still doing mixing work. I usually only mix my own bands but I'm on hiaitus from playing. I do have a few groups that seem to like what I do and want me to...
Oh I didn't mean to say that they were bad, I just didn't like the high end detail out of any of them. Some of the nicer and smaller ones had better midrange detail, but I couldn't judge the low end because of the room.
For instance, every KRK I've heard except the V4 sounds too laid back in...
Tuning starts with the bearing edges. If you don't have a relatively new custom kit, I'd set the drum on a flat surface (preferably marble, not glass) and shine a light at the edge. If you can see any light peeking through, bring the kit to a local drum shop and have them re-edge it (actually...
Alright, I ordered the Blue Sky MediaDesk system. They had TWO of them on display but no drivers for the sound card hooked up to the iMac. So what I THOUGHT I heard from them last week was actually the iMac speakers
On that note, I didn't like any of the monitors I listened to...
I had some hum and switched to balanced cables, took care of the problem. Then a solder connection broke in one and I put in a regular 1/4" and it sounded the same. So it was a bad cable in the first place :D
I have a little static, but that's because I don't have a hardware volume knob for...
Patchmix is good, stable software. It's hard to figure out at first, and the routing can be complex, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to activate the onboard effects, but it works. There's probably better out there.
Isn't it an EMU proprietary thing? If you like the EMU cards...
As a drummer, I can honestly say there were no dynamics in that video. Solid tempo and talent with polyrhythms. Good dexterity and speed. No dynamics and very little feeling though.
This is a drummer with dynamics and feeling
Here's another
Dynamics are loud and soft in the same passage...
Here's my thread on monitors...
I'm selling my BX8's in a week or so if you're interested. They're too big for my room and for my desk, but they sound great.
Well if anyone cares I had one and really liked it, just sold it because I'm going from PC to Mac and getting a FirePod that has the pre's and converters in one box.
Pretty clean, low noise, not outstanding sound quality, but not enough to hold back your average home-rec'er. I look at it this...
Thicker heads, QUALITY heads, more muffling than you would use on a quality kit, lots of time tuning, and a good touch.
The cymbals have to be quality though. Cheap cymbals sound horrible. I use Saludas, which run about half the price of Zildjians, and they sound just a hair better.
Well that snare's pretty heavily processed, but I've got two custom made snares...
You can get these kinds of snares for probably $300 or so. One's 13x7, the other's 14x7.
I'd recommend something with at least 10 plies, maybe even up to 20 plies. Sharper bearing edges, I like flanged...
Over four songs. The kids started out singing, then I would comp together vocal tracks, then they would lay down a few harmony vocals, then we did some group shouting stuff, then there was screaming...it's a mess. It took me probably 8 hours to comp together all the vocals.
I'd say your...
Alright, either I'm a really good drummer or I have no clue what I'm doing.
I find that on my latest project, at least on the drums, I don't like compression on any of the tracks. And it's pretty edgy/aggressive rock stuff. I find the best results are from EQ'ing the tracks so they fit...
