    Fender Stratocaster Jim Root

I never got why people are so crazy about signature instruments. They're so freakin overpriced, why not just get the regular model. There isn't much of a difference (quality wise) anyway.

    acoustic guitar woes...

When nothing seems to work, take a step back. Have someone play the guitar and move around it, see where it sounds good to you. Use an LDC, and the SDCs. Move them around. Also, where in the room is the guitar? Learn to identify what is lacking in the sound you're getting, and work towards...

    external preamp vs mixer

This is the first time I've seen you post outside the cave  But he does have a point. If you're only starting out you probably won't need an external preamp. I mainly play drums, and I prefer to have a prepamp for my OHs, that's what my DMP3 is for.

Better to MIC amp than plug directly to mixer with no preamp?

What if someone recorded and uploaded several samples, some sims and some mic'd amps, and see how many people can tell the difference. I'd be interested in the results. I might be wrong but I think not a lot of people will get a lot right. I'd probably do poorly.

    Some USB questions

If your USB interface has 8 inputs then yeah absolutely, you'll get 8 seperate tracks on your DAW. You're probably thinking of a mixer, a mixer will give you 2 outs.

    Some USB questions

    1. The interface will be your soundcard 2. You will connect your monitors to your soundcard and a power source (if they are active) or an amplifier (if they are passive) 3. Well technically 2 inputs are also simultaneous, but yeah there are USB interfaces with upto 8 XLR inputs, if that's what...

Better to MIC amp than plug directly to mixer with no preamp?

Whoa, what ?? If you're only using a POD what do you need a noise gate for.

    Let me introduce my self.

What if I buy your beats and sell them to arcadeko ? Once I buy them, do I own said beats or are they still your intellectual property ?

    My Generation

I don't know about you, but I think the hard part about getting "lo fi Keith Moon" sounding drums is playing like Keith Moon. Get that down first, then worry about where to put the 2 mics you'll be using.

why NOT use 2 mics for snare?

Generally, I prefer to use the minimum number of mics I can to get a nice overall sound, which in my case is 7. I don't usually use room mics, a ride mic, extra snare or kick mics. The simpler the better. I think you'd go for a bottom snare mic (when you say 2 I'm assuming you mean a bottom mic)...

    Ahead drumsticks, your thoughts please

I use Pro marks, Japanese oaks like the one you mentioned, and their hickory line. The Japanese oak is great, but it breaks suddenly, as opposed to developing cracks like a hickory stick. In other words you can tell when your hickory stick is worn out and about to break, not so much with the...

How do I add vocals to an instrumental audio track?

You need a DAW (Reaper, Cubase, etc.). If you have the instrumental open in the DAW, you can add a new track, and record vocals to the whole thing while listenting to the instrumental.

real drums, electric drums, or button pushing?

Not to mention a soundcard with 8 inputs. Plus, going through all that effort just to make drum loops isn't worth it. Stick with programming drums. Addictive drums, EZ drummer, BFD, are all pretty common.

    Feeding on Overhead

Why would you ever want to do that though? Just my opinion, but it seems like WAY too much work for individual drum isolation, and bleed isn't really a problem if everything is set up right.

    good, cheap all-purpose crash?

ZBTs, PSTs, B8s, they all sound fine when you start playing. But it doesn't take long to outgrow them. Even a couple of months into drumming, I started realizing how bad they sound. I would never recommend that stuff to anyone.

Close micing drums vs. Glyn Johns method for 1st time recording drums??

I'm not sure you understand what Glyn Johns is. You can do both with 7 inputs. Get the overheads equidaistant from the snare. One mic directly above the snare, behind the drummer's head, and the other one peeking over the floor tom. Everything else is close mic'd. It's prefectly OK to play...
