I don't think getting a hit song is up to the people. Whatever a label decides to pick and promote, is what gets played on the radio and on tv, and becomes a 'hit'. After that one song, everyone's gonna listen to the artist's other songs too.

It'll significantly cut the bleed, but it won't cut it out completely. I've been doing that for a long time. I probably wouldn't say it gives more attack, but it gives kind of a nice, fuller sound. Another thing people swear by is putting a coin on the beater head. I've never tried it myself...

I'm guessing you mean you want the solo clean for the tapping and what not, and the rhythms distorted. This is where you can really use some EQ. Take a certain frequency, where you think the solo sounds good, and boost it a tiny bit, 3db max. Cut the same frequency from the rhythm guitars and...

Yeah, that is kinda weird. Either you breath pretty freakin loud, or you have the mic placed wrong.

I know i'm not answering your question, but if I had to get something cheaper than an SM57/58 from Shure, I'd go with the PG line, nothing else.

^^^This. You hear enough people say something and you automatically start to believe it. Also, it's important to have realistic expectations from your equipment. I have a pair of Behri overhead mics, 50 bucks a pair. They're no AKGs, but they do the job fine, I've never had any problems.
