"Proper" is in the ear of the engineer. If it sounds good, then its good. Some people on here will try to tell you there are rules of mixing, but the best mixes are the ones that stepped outside of the box and opened a new world to the listener. Do what you feel is "proper."
Also, acoustic...
No, I didn't say that at all. I am saying that sometimes vocab you use when you communicate with someone depends on the audience. When I speak with international associates, I don't use large words that he or she may not know.
Did I say that? I use them all the time to plug in instruments into...
This is what is known as frame rate noise and USB switching. The grounding and power supply design cause this noise. A good example of a unique solution to this problem is in the Line6 Tone Port product. Line6 actually used a small transformer and 555 timer to make a switch-mode power supply...
I just re-read and it seems the argument came down to what a DI is doing. In my understanding and expierence it comes down to attenuating the level of the source to allow you to plug it into a mic pre. That is exactly what RAK said to begin with while the other poster refuted, but later came...
Wow, this is a pretty intense thread. And oddly, one participant changed what he was saying in the middle to mirror what his counterpart was saying, then told his counterpart he was an idiot...
Technically, I can't answer the debate, however, I do know in the studio and on the stage I run DI's...
Powerbook G4 (Could have updated this since pro tools 7.0 works with the new intel's now). Digi 002 Rack. I am not sure about other gear he uses, but I know this is his main recording rig. The rest of the band also uses Apple Powerbooks, as well as the live monitor engineer. I had the honor of...
I just recorded a Djembe for a song of mine a few weekends ago. I simply put a KSM 27 above the head of the drum. The sound from that is awesome. It was a simple approach that yeilded wonderful results.
I usually set mine around 512 for tracking. 64 might be too low? Also, when you say chorus, do you mean you are hearing what you are recording like this? Try muting the track in DP you are recording to if this is the case.
I am not sure what you mean by on the grid?
Oh, Ok...I see what you mean now. Sorry about that. I thought you were trying to say that recording a guitar in stereo is not a good idea. I misunderstood. But you are right, haveing a stereo track of the same thing is not worth it. And I also always make 2 mono tracks in Pro Tools. I can't...
Dude - Have you never wanted a stereo guitar track? it can be very pleasing to the ear; acoustic or electric. I have so many professional recordings with stereo guitar tracks. What are you talking about?
When you listen back, you are summing the mono. Meaning, it's not really stereo, but its distributing the mono send to both L/R. What yo uare recording is mono. A single audio channel. If you want to record stereo, you need two mics and two tracks to do it. You could also record your guitar...
Hey Bartman,
first, I totally feel the lyrics and the subject matter. Although, my corporate job is much better than most (Shure), but I understand wanting to do what you do best all day.
Ok, on to the mix. The first thing I noticed is the reduction in volume on the guitar when the rest of the...
Do you mean that the actual track going to disc is latent, or what you are monitoring is latent?
If it's the first, I would look into the hardware buffer settings of DP. I am not sure where this is in DP, but it should be in there. Once you find it, set it at a lower setting for tracking, and...
No problem dude.
One of the guys I work with here at Shure tells he the quadraverb is a product from Alesis intorduced in the 80s. It is some type of effect processor where you can run 4 effects at a time.
*firewire - FireWire is Apple Computer's version of a standard, IEEE 1394, High Performance Serial Bus, for connecting devices to your personal computer. Of course, it works with PCs as well. Much more reliable and more bandwidth than USB.
*scratch track - This is track that won't be used in the...
No, you don't here people saying lets go to homerecording to settle this (or do you?), however, just like this forum, I have used other forums for different topics to get where I need to be. Five years ago I knew nothing about Linux. Using google and user forums I am now the proud father of a...
Southside - I asked you this question intially and never got an answer. This forum is open source at it's best. What is the difference? We make mistakes on here, others correct us. Pool of knowledge.
