Of course it does, everybody knows that, silly.

    Maple or Birch?

I was just suggesting that all things being equal, as in the same sized drum with the same heads that the shell composition and construction has a very significant impact on the sound of the drum. You cannot get a birch drum to sound as dark and deep as a mahogany shelled drum regardless of...

Cymbal Choice, please help, opinions please Im so confused

Saying Zildjian is the only serious choice is using their advertizing tag line in a tongue in cheek manner. Buy whatever you want, I don't make a buck either way.

Cymbal Choice, please help, opinions please Im so confused

Mid 60's Slingerland 3 ply on Rims mounts, DW hardware and Tama Iron Cobra pedals. Doesn't get any more real than that. My Radio King snares beat anything. You metal boys can bang on your Pearls and Yamahas all day. Real men play vintage american drums.:D

Cymbal Choice, please help, opinions please Im so confused

Zildjian A's , not customs, will give you the greatest degree of versitility from jazz to hard rock. A customs are brighter and glassier than straight A's, more like Paiste's. Z's are for metal heads and sound like hitting a steel pipe in my opinion, K's are very dark and quiet, relatively...

    Maple or Birch?

The type of wood influences the overtones of the sound more than the heads. I personally would never be caught dead with a birch kit in my studio. They sound too high pitched and "boingy". Maple is best for tuned up, articulate playing, mahogany is best for tuned down darker tones. Also, ply...

    Help with volume mastering

It would be great if the search function of this forum actually returned useful results. Of course with every high and mighty a$$hole on here posting obscure references and tangental comments, no wonder you can't find anything of value. And you all came to post about how lame it is to answer the...

    Vocal Effects (Harmonies, etc)

I have a Digitech Vocalist VR that I like to use sparingly. It can really fatten up a backing track. That being said, if you can't sing, it wont fix $hit. And if you use too much of it, it sounds fake. But a little bit from a send to an additional track in the DAW that you can compress and add...

    Studio Montors

I can not overstate my love for my JBL LSR2325's with the LSR 2310 sub. Everyone is stunned the first time I play something on them. Incredibly clear and articulate.

Advice on tubes for Mic pre's

Thanks you all for your insights, especially Blue Jinn and moresound. I now have some good opinions with which to make some educated guesses. The breakdown of the various tubes is excellent info. To C7sus; I respect your right to have the opinions you have although I was quite clear that the...

Advice on tubes for Mic pre's

Thanks Blue Jinn. Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. I guess I am looking for educated info and opinions about the different expected harmonics, microphionics and distortion charachteristics of the various shapes and lengths of plates in a given preamp or compressor so I am not...

Advice on tubes for Mic pre's

I have a question about changing out tubes in a starved plate design tube mic pre; Which tubes create which effect on the sound. Specifically I am interested in which characteristic is attributed to which plate color, length and shape (smooth, ribbed or other) as well as the different getter...

Behringer and the hits keep coming...

Um, did I just shift through a space time portal to the professional recording forum? I thought I was on the Homerecording forum. Seriously, this site is filled with bitchy slobs who think their opinion is somehow the gospel truth. Get some friends so you don't have to spew your projected self...

    Monitor upgrade

Got rid of my Tria's. No bottom end so everything winds up with the bottom end cranked when listening in a "real" environment. I now have JBL 2325's with the matching sub. Perfect in every way except price (about $850 total).
