    stereo to mono with circles

The circles he is referring to are the indicator on the channels that state whether the information on that track is stereo or mono. To get a stereo track to mono you will need to bounce the stereo track to a mono track. You can't just say "Hey, make this stereo track mono". A stereo track is 2...

    Headphone Over Spill Problem

Whenever I get somebody who needs the headphones on 11 I give them some in ear buds and shooters muffs. Solves both problems.

Sooooooo tired of fake drum threads.

Well, I would think that, since I posted here, I give at least 2 shits about the topic at hand. If I didn't, I wouldn't have. Did you disagree with my basic premise? I think there can be value in ignoring the shit that doesn't matter to us.

Sooooooo tired of fake drum threads.

I tried this new thing: I don't read or post in topics I couldn't give two shits about. It's like a miracle drug, without the miracle or the drug. And it's free.

It's only expensive if you actually pay for it.

    Which Hi Hats?

Older 2002's might have mellowed a little bit. I have always found Paiste cymbals to be sort of glassy with really high pitched overtones and decay. Never cared for them recorded although they do cut through in a live setting. For recording I find 13" Zildjian New Beats to be just about perfect...

    Sticks

Maybe check out your technique? I play either Promark 737's or Vic Firth Steve Gadd model (same stick basically) and I break a stick about every 3-4 months. Mostly they just start to come apart at the rimshot location or whittle away at the shoulder from thousands of hi hat hits. I play 90...

    Les Paul Refinish Job

I would not refinish if the integrity of the existing finish is good. Some guy out there is just hoping that a yellowed blond LP will be available. Sell it and buy another in the color you like. Refinished guitars are almost always priced lower than a stock finished counterpart, even if it is in...

New Ribbon Mic Purchase Advice - Audio Samples

Cascade Fathead II is nice. I did not like the X1R, too dark. Replace the transformer in one of those r40s with a Cinemag from Geistnote and do the mods you can find online. You will probably be amazed, if your ribbon is the proper tension. Most inexpensive ribbon mics I have seen have stretched...

Tascam Track Not In Sync With Cubase

Make sure that the cursor is set to the same point in both projects. If you import into Cubase it will paste it at the cursor point. Or you can move it by using the comp tool (looks like a hand). Grab it and slide it until it is lined up where you want it.

    Recording the room

I find that a ribbon mic is my favorite room mic. You'll need a pre that gives at least 50 dB of clean gain and I usually find I compress the signal 4-6 dB to make it pop. I usually find that if I start in the center of the room and work my way towards one wall I will find a sweet spot at a...

    Quantizing Drums

Quantize, edit, adjust, bump...do whatever it takes to get the song sounding it's best. It's your music, do what you like with it. I would steer clear of asking others if they think it's okay to do something that improves the net end product but might not be "cool" or "proper". Shit, most of the...
